You know, why not give Morris a chance to grab it? I see that he is already 26 so saving that service time shouldn't be as big of a deal. Two thoughts about this:

1. Would rather see than a Green/AGonz platoon. Would also rather see this than a Lee/Huff stopgap.

2. Is Morris excels, just put Corey back in right and platoon Aoki/GoGo. If the team isn't in it, you also have the option of dealing Hart since you now have your 1B of the future in Morris.

No way, I like Aoki in right. Between Green, Gonzalez, and Hunter they should be able to get by until Hart comes back since he figures to be back by mid May.
Couple things you could be referring to but if it's the comment that maybe they are protecting a gimpy knee by putting him at 1B, I do not agree. If he is cleared to play, he will be cleared to play RF.

Someone on here commented on complicated footwork at 1B so I would have thought they would get it. One could argue that bad throws that would pull a 1B into a runner could put ones knee is jeopardy more than RF.

Either way, if he is cleared to take the field, he will be cleared for RF as well as 1B if they so choose to go that route.

EDIT: In all reality, I do expect this discussion to be moot as Hart will be at 1B most likely when he returns.

More #Brewers options should they look outside: Mike Carp, DFAd by M's. Daric Barton of A's. But DMelvin said focus is on internals first.

Carp is interesting, he is a lefty, which is nice, but isn't very good defensively. He was a promising prospect not that long ago.

Man, this really sucks. Gamel's got such a sweet swing. I just feel like he's never gotten a fair chance to show what he could do at the Major League level as his play time has been so sporadic. He finally gets the starting job last season, and gets derailed by the knee.

Morris might just get his shot now. While he hasn't played at AAA yet, I don't know if he needs to. Let's see how he does this spring.

I really feel bad for Mat.
Sounds like Hunter is pretty humble, which I like to hear:

Hunter Morris modest about chances to start at first base

Phoenix - A modest and humble Hunter Morris said all of the right things Monday when asked about his chances of winning the Brewers' first base job now that Mat Gamel is lost for the season with another ACL tear in his right knee.

"To me, I haven't done anything yet," said Morris. "We haven't played a game yet. I've only got a couple of at-bats in major-league camp over the last two years. So, I certainly haven't done anything to prove myself that I even deserve to be there.

"I have to continue to work to prove that to myself and to the staff and the organization."

Morris, 24, the Southern League player of the year in 2012 at Class AA Huntsville, was going to get a good look in this camp in any event. Now that Gamel -- who was supposed to temporarily replace injured Corey Hart -- is out for the season with a recurrence of an ACL tear in his right knee, the job is open in camp and the spotlight will be greater on Morris.

From his end, Morris said he will approach each day as he would have without the news on Gamel.

"I think I'm expected to go about my work the same as I would any other way," said Morris, who batted .303 with 40 doubles, 28 home runs, 113 RBI and a .920 OPS last season at Huntsville. "That's my mentality right now -- just continue to work the same way I prepared to come in and work.

"It's a big jump (from Class AA ball). Us talking about it doesn't mean I'm going to go out and get the job. I've got to go out and earn it. I've got to do a lot of things extraordinary. Doing that also comes with not putting too much pressure on myself. I'll be playing baseball somewhere this year. I don't know where it's going to be.

"I stay relaxed about it. Baseball is baseball. I don't think the game changes that much from the mental side of it. I've just got to do what got me here in the first place. It's all the same type of progression and part of the game. I'll just work and start the season wherever it may be."
