Gards at Izzos

It's stating the obvious but a big game for Wisconsin 

Winning at M$U is never easy and Sparty seems to be getting their act together a bit.  This is the type of game where Showy and Vitto Brown and Nigel need to step up and play like they are capable of as Happ and Koenig can't do it all by themselves.  

Always seem to struggle at Breslin and other than one half against Maryland they've generally looked like a very mediocre team.  Hope I'm wrong but my level of optimism isn't particularly high.

Second unit comes in and Badgers start to struggle. 

At least Iverson hits his FTs. 

Why does Gard play this unit? It's like giving away 8-10 points every game. Iverson, Thomas, Hill, Trice. Defense is terrible and they can't hit shots.

I like Gard, but playing this second unit at the 15 minute mark in the first half of every game is a serious mistake. Play your starters longer and try to maintain or extend a lead. The Iverson, Thomas, Hill, Pritzl, Trice unit (or 2-3 of those guys together) is not ready for prime-time. It also results in the first unit guys losing their rhythm.

I agree. This team may really struggle next year. I don't have any confidence that any of the second unit are Big 10 level starters other than Happ.

I think this team is pretty much done in terms of making any noise in the tournament. As soon as that second unit comes in, the momentum changes. The fact that Hayes is completely a head case at the free throw line which results a lot of empty possessions. 

Jordan Hill gets abused. 

Bad d, Hayes stinks, MSU looks much perkier,  oh did I mention that Hayes stinks.

That is exactly why I can't watch this team. They can't shoot and they compensate by turning the ball over repeatedly. Add their newfound habit of playing crappy defense and they make me want to do something else.

At some point, I think you tell Koenig just to try to take over. Hayes has regressed badly. Happ has struggled since the double teaming started. Hayes and Happ are liabilities at the FT line. Showalter and Vitto are solid role players - but nothing more. You can't trust any of the bench guys. Ugh.

I think he's tried to adjust. He just doesn't have the players to do anything else. Trice is the only player who's shown any growth during the year. 

What a stupid goaltending by Iverson. 

Brown with a LOL there. Nice Drive on a smaller guy and then shoot an air ball on a fadeaway. 

Nice run near the end of the half. All inside shots by Hayes and Happ. 

Signs of life at the end of the half....need to get BK going and they have a great chance.  

Very very nice comeback to pull within 1 at the half.  Get rested and with the usual Gard adjustments at halftime they can win this and get back into a tie for the B1G lead.

No, but I know those woman.....they graduated with my sister from high school together.  They are trying to get themselves patented.  Ha ha......  

Nice to see the fight back this time.

Quite a few defensive lapses (again).  I'd also like to see them retire the spin/fadeaway completely.  I'd like Vitto Brown to return to only two things, either pass the ball or shoot the three.  There is only a 10% chance something good happens when he starts to dribble.  

I'd give Vitto a seat right after the anthem

Nigel is establishing himself on the block, but he's killing them with missed FTs. If he and Happ hit 70% of their free throws its probably a time game right now (given that they've the front end of 3 one and ones).

I think Gard would like to sit Vitto but who is going to play instead of him? 

Hayes is taking it to them.  Need to keep going to and thru him as long as Ward and Bridges are out.  They will be back soon

Trice misses a wide open 3 and MSU goes down and hits a 3 in transition. The second unit guys have to step up. That's how you go from potentially down 1 to down 9 in less than a minute. Why is Trice in at that point? Showalter is not in foul trouble and Koenig is on the floor. Showalter is 5-6 (3-4 from 3). Play him. 

From #6 in the country to a #7 or #8 seed in the NCAA in less than a month? 

5 for 13 from the line including 3 front ends of the bonus. 

Iverson and Hill in again. Why? They just had to bring Hayes back in after 10 seconds.

Our players aren't playing well (other than Showalter). That's the underlying problem.

He's an undersized power forward (he's probably 6'6" not the listed 6'8") who struggles when doubled in the post. Playing with Kaminsky and Dekker made him look more physically talented than he is. 

And 4/12 FT's?? Wow he needs to step out.
