Reporting from Indianapolis — Are all NFL teams ready for the national spotlight?

They should be, because the league will arrange its 2012 schedule to ensure that every team will play a Thursday game. This is the first time every NFL team will play in a nationally televised game in a given season.

In his annual Super Bowl address Friday, Commissioner Roger Goodell said the NFL Network's Thursday night schedule will be expanded from eight to 13 games next season (not counting the Thursday night season opener), and they will run from Week 2 through Week 15. Besides the NFL Network's games, CBS, FOX and NBC will air Thanksgiving Day games.

"We think that's great for the fans," Goodell said. "We think it's great for the teams because everyone will get that prime time exposure, and we think it's great for the [NFL] Network."

Would GB open the NFL season in 2012 ala New Orleans (previous seasons SB winner) last season? If yes, and if GB gets a Thanksgiving rematch with the Lions, that would be 3 times GB plays on Thursdays.

I'm already shuddering at the idiocy of the NFLN crew. Let me guess, we'll get Joe Theisman...

So having teams come right out of the gate and play games on 3 days rest is a good idea?

And increasing the number of players playing games on 3 days rest when he's talking out the other side of his cake hole about trying to reduce injuries is a good idea?

This a$$hat would airbrush the Mona Lisa if anyone turned their back for 20 seconds. He needs to stop this endless tinkering with the league. It's fine the way it is.
Just looking at the 2012 schedule GB would not play NE but we do play the G Men. So if the Giants win tomorrow, pretty good bet IMO that GB will open at the Giants to start the 2012 season. That would be a hell of a game and no doubt GB would want major payback. Since we know were playing on the NFLN that's 2 Thursday games.

Then it's a matter if they slate GB on Thanksgiving. I have a feeling we're going to be doing this 3 games in 10-12 days BS again. Roll Eyes
Exactly. This is dumb. Seems more and more players get nicked up or injured in these thursday games. We have Goodell spending years doing all he can to limit the risk of injuries in the league and yet he wants MORE thursday games? Feces. Dum Dum.

Packers 45- Giants 17

too early?

Packers seem to own the Giants in the regular season, so it wouldn't surprise me.

You really think the Giants will sign Super Mario?
Trying to keep my spirits up in the face of coming to grips of how in the hell a 9-7 team came to Green Bay and got the best of the Packers. It's as simple as that.

It's not easy. Going to be a long 36 hours.

Too much of a good thing waters down the general state of the league, and gameplay as well. A main reason I prefer football to other major sports is waiting 7 months and knowing the season is a finite thing. More is not better, more is just more. Nascar goes like 10 months or something now don't they? At some point squeezing the golden goose for all it's worth should take a back seat to letting the game show its worth for what it is. Oversaturation simply results in more meaningless games by more stretched out rosters among too many teams in the league. I got an idea- let's go to an 18 game season! Roll Eyes

Change is inevitable. I'm afraid of some of the changes he is sure to ramrod over the next few years, beginning with the 18-game season, and continuing with expanding foreign games.
This particular situation doesn't bother me as much. The league generally considers scheduling situations when the potential exists, and I don't think it should have a major impact on the teams.

Why do I recall something about no team being forced to play consecutive years on Thanksgiving other than Det/Dallas?

It's been in one of the few discussions that pop up whenever a new schedule is announced for the upcoming season.
I recall reading a post that said the Packers didn't have a Thanksgiving game this year.

"We are Goodell. Resistance is futile."
Goodell doesn't do anything without the owners blessings. The owners are the one's hell bent on having an 18 game season, Jerry Jones specifically.

I'd have to imagine they'll schedule as many teams as they can to play that Thursday night game before their bye week and I'd hope they try to keep them from playing in division.

Overall I like more Thursday games. If there's any another game when the Packers are playing it doesn't get much attention from me and there's a bunch of teams I rarely watch.
I'm thinking each teams Thursday game will be either before or after their bye week. Teams that are on byes will probably be playing each other on Thursdays following their bye.

Hopefully we get Minnesota after our bye week. I always like to hear the Viking fans cry about the league favoring us.

I don't think it's actually an established rule since the Broncos traveled back to back in '05 and '06, but that's the only instance in the last 15 years. I think its more of a gentlemen's agreement, so we'll see if it holds.

The one thing that hasn't changed has been CBS and FOX alternating between the DET and DAL games for the day slate. DET will host an AFC team for CBS this year, and GB doesn't travel to DAL. Barring a spot in the night game, we should all be free to enjoy Thanksgiving with only the stress of family, not football.
