Gutsy exhibition finale helps Chris Banjo land roster spot
By Tyler Dunne of the Journal Sentinel on Saturday, August 31st, 2013When Chris Banjo went down with a groin injury in the second quarter of Thursday’s game at Kansas City, that could have been it. He knew it. Surrounded by trainers, he stayed on the turf for several moments. The safety landed awkwardly after forcing an errant throw on a pass rush. The X-ray was negative, so Banjo returned. Pain “throbbing,” he played on.
“Just how far I’ve come,”Banjo said Saturday night. “According to everybody else I wasn’t even supposed to be there at that point in camp competing for a roster spot. When I started thinking about how hard it was to get there, I wasn’t going to let that hold me back.”
When Banjo returned, he sacked Tyler Brayfor a 14-yard loss. On a blitz from the slot, he bowled through the running back and took down Bray, continuing a theme of training camp. Despite being a last-minute addition to the 90-man roster, Banjo played fast throughout.
Added Perry during camp, "He doesn't let not knowing slow him down. He's a guy that if he's not quite sure, he's still going to go full speed. Whereas some guys when they're not sure, they go 70% or 80%. He's going to go full speed regardless. That's a great sign of a good football player." continue
Good article. Well worth the click.
