..... liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti ?
Thanks to Josh, Nate, and the Vikings' defense for that play. Not only did it mean a home playoff game at Lambeau, but also because of what it meant for the final standings that year, it brought the Packers to Carolina the following season, giving me another chance to see them live!!!
And a chance at Ahmad Carroll.
Who were the other DB's drafted that year? I thought we did did 1-2-3 draft picks on DB's
One of them got into a fist fight with Carroll....and he also had a horrific personal foul the next season against Atlanta that kept their drive alive so we lost.
the other guy was Berry...I think?
Oh, no... that was the EPIC draft of:
Highway 28
Joey JoJo Shabidoo Thomas
Donnell 'DNP' Washington
and of course, rounding out the third round, as Shermy sent about 834 picks to move back into it, was the immortal BJ Sander.
They did get Cory Williams and Scott Wells at the end, but that's still possibly the worst draft ever in GB, and IMHO one of the final nails in the Shermy GM coffin.
Still, that was one helluva fun day 10 years ago.
Your memory is scrambled. They did the 1-2-3 on DBs in '99 (panic response to Randy Moss), Eric Berry was drafted in 2000, Joey Thomas was the other CB they drafted that year (a pitiful draft where only 5 players were taken, at least one was Scott Wells, though) and the Packers didn't play the Falcons in 2004 (although Carroll did commit many, many penalties that kept drives alive).
Wells was the only pick that made that draft NOT a complete failure.
Yes! thanks JJSD.
Joey Thomas was the one who really stunk up the joint...a poor man's Jarrett Bush in his day...except...he couldn't play at all...
Williams was a decent pick now that JJSD brings him up (had forgotten about him). He was a very good player in '06 and '07, and the Packers did end up getting a 2nd round draft pick from the Browns for him. In spite of those two players, it still was one of the most pathetic drafts in the history of this team.
Cory Williams was a decent rotation guy. IIRC, Ted tagged him and traded him to CLE for a second rounder that was ultimately pissed away on Brian Brohm.
Wells was ultimately replaced by Jeff Saturday.
It's as if everything associated with that draft ultimately turned to ****. It was the-icon of drafts.
thanks, Pack-Man...I'm not sure and am too lazy right now to Google it...but I do remember a game when Thomas made a huge stupid mistake that cost us a 15 yard penalty late in the game and we didn't get the ball back....and Sherman was in his face and I thought punches were going to be thrown between the 2 on the sideline...it was not a good day for the Packers..
anyway...Maybe it wasn't the Falcons or maybe it wasn't the following year of the Nate Poole game....
But if they didn't have that other 2nd rounder, Ted's thinking may have been different (he really wanted that insurance QB) and he may have just drafted Brohm and not been able to still take Jordy Nelson
