No line ups yet but in other Brewers news Joey Wiemer sent down to AAA and Blake Perkins activated. I feel kind of bad for Joey, he started preety good, especially defensively, but he just feel off the face of the earth batting. In the last month he has hit .071. Yelich is still day to day. Jackson Churio promoted to AAA!!!
Really thought Weimer was going to be special.
I think he still can be. Counsell said he thinks bringing up Frelick had something to do with it. Wiemer was not prepared to go from an everyday player to a part timer. Some players handle that better than others. If he works hard this winter and gets his head on straight he can make a positive impact on the Brewers in 2024. Frelick has fallen off somewhat in batting after a hot start.
Wiemer was still an everyday player after Frelick joined the team. Taylor and Canha are the guys that put Wiemer on the bench.
Wiemer never adjusted to the breaking balls on the MLB level and until he does he'll be a minor league player. They need to completely retool his stance and hitting approach if he wants to make it. He has all the tools and had a great chance to stake claim to an OF position in MILW for a long time. But now he's opened the door for Churio, Mitchell, and Frelick to be the OF of the future. Previously, it looked like Mitchell or Felick might be trade bait because they are so similar as players but until Wiemer turns things around he's the odd man out.
Straight from the horses mouth, Counsell, " "When Sal [Frelick] got here, Joeyβs playing situation changed, and that's been different for him," manager Craig Counsell said Saturday. "He has not been in there every day, and that's been harder for him, I think. That's just part of it. That's another adjustment that a young player has to make. We want those adjustments to happen overnight and very quickly, and they don't always happen that way.β

Don't believe the fluff. Frelick didn't play in CF until his 15th game and Canha was here. Wiemer simply played his way to the minor leagues.
So you are saying Counsell is a liar? I think it is more that as a young player Wiemer just became overwhelmed by the length of the season and all the travel and not responding to a slump. I'm willing to give him a chance. Are you or do you think he is done as a ML?

You can call it what you want but the numbers speak for themself. Frelick did not replace Wiemer until the 15th game. Had Wiemer performed he'd still be in CF even after Frelick was called up. It was Canha who really cost Wiemer playing time.
I give up.

Thanks
Letβs just not give up on Joey! π
Wiemer has all the tools to be a fixture in MILW for a long time but he needs to adjust to MLB pitching. I don't think he played that much at AAA in 2022 so he was overmatched with the quality of breaking balls on the MLB level. He needs to take away all that unnecessary movement with the bat.

Absolutely. The hands are what I notice - as the pitcher is about to release he drops his hands big time.
Nothing wrong with busy hands*
*contemplated a theater joke as well
Pee Wee Hermanβs body isnβt even cold yet. Too soon.
Wainwright going for career win 200. He got #199 in his last outing after losing 10 consecutive decisions. I think the Cardinals made it a priority to get him #200 no matter what. Not sure what his ERA is but it was around 8 at one point.
7.70, but I cherry picked that stat.
7.95 at the start of the game, around 8.
This has to be the lowpoint for the Brewers offense. A guy who has been shelled all season pitching a 3 hitter on 80 pitches through 6 innings.

Other than Contreras, Canha, and Frelick, the 6 other Brewers starters on offense are barely better than a triple AAA team. Adames is at a 710 OPS, but at least hits a few bombs.
The bottom 4 guys in the order have OPS of 666, 676, 598, and 655. Of the 135 full-time players in MLB (on pace for 502 plate appearances), 128 of them have OPS above that.
There are 350 players in MLB with plate appearances this year with OPS better than the bottom 4 guys in the Brewers order. On average there are 10.5 guys on every MLB roster better than half of the Brewers order tonight.
The Brewers are batting a guy 3rd tonight (Santana) who hasn't had an OPS above 730 since 2019. Josh Donaldson has been washed up for three years.
The Brewers offense was pretty weak even before Yelich's back flared up (probably about 7-8 weeks ago). It's downright embarrassing right now.
Frelick on base with 2 outs in the 8th. Contreras up with a guy on base. Here's the chance.
God damnit Counsell, bunt. Monasterio leads off the 8th with a single, then Tay lor grounds into a double play. Then Frelick hits an infield single to short. Momasterio probably would not have scored but there would be 2 runners on and only 1 out. SHIT!!!!.

So much for that.
So, Woodruff and Peralta gave up a combined 2 runs (1 each) and 7 hits in their last starts, both going 6 innings. Neither will get the win. Start before last, Burnes threw a no hitter for 8 innings, and got no decision.
This offense is just offensive. Why would any of these guys want to stay here when they are continually let down by the team around them?

The Brewers basically give away more outs by having bad offensive players than almost any other team in baseball. It's harder to justify giving more away by bunting.

They are really lucky that they somehow got Contreras by being the third team in the Murphy trade. Without him, they'd have nothing right now. It doesn't hurt that he makes the minimum, which is about all Attanasio will spring for.
I know I've said this over and over in other threads, but it boggles my mind they don't give Hiura a shot. DH him. But they keep giving Tellez and others at-bats.

No, when it's in the 8th inning or later, you ahve to try and tie the game. A runner on 1st will not usually do that, but a runner on 2nd, even with 1 out has a chance at least. Look how fast most extra inning games end with the automatic runner.

Definitely when you are playing at home, but I would argue less so on the road.
On a positive note, Jackson Chourio got promoted to AAA.
With our bullpen, home or road, it shouldn't matter. You need to put some pressure on the opposing pitcher.
Peralta took the loss.
Every man in the lineup tonight should be embarrassed.

So, the Brewers chance of generating any offense in the post-season may rely on a 19 year old that has yet to have any at-bats above AA?

The sad thing is that this is only the second worse loss of this type this month. They lost a game where they had a no-hitter after 10 innings (although I guess facing Cole made that a little less frustrating).

Attanasio is going to auction off Burnes and Woodruff this off-season anyway.
I thought I saw that Hiura was injured again. I'm not sure if he's even on the 40 man roster.
He is not. He was DFA during spring training. Nobody claimed him so he went to Nashville.
I guess Hiura has an elbow problem.
Still, Josh Donaldson getting at-bats in a pennant race at this point in his career is ludicrous. They'd almost be better off having Ryan Braun come out of retirement and DH. He's only 2 years older than Donaldson.
