Remember long ago (ok, last season) when many of us cringed every time Jarret Bush took the field for the defense? Remember how Bush was a sure fire touchdown for the other team every time the ball got thrown in his direction (or so we thought)?

Well, Jarret might never be confused for Darrell Revis, but the kid is turning into a pretty good player. And while I've been critical of him many times (and I'm sure I will be again), I think a pat on the back is in order.

On special teams, he's become a stud. While we're calling for Shawn Slowcum's head (and rightfully so), Bush has excelled in coverage. Ok, so the only tackle Bush made on Thursday night was of Randall Cobb after his 108 yard kick return, he is always around the ball. And, believe it or not, Bush is much improved in coverage.

When Tramon Williams went out last night, and Bush took over his cover spot, I guarantee the majority of us got that uneasy feeling. The Saints were moving on offense, and the game was tight. And Brees was on fire.

Bush ran stride for stride with Saint's burner Devery Henderson, and on a deep ball to the endzone, Bush broke it up. The Saints scored a TD a few plays later, but Bush held. If Tramon is out any length of time, Bush will assume some of the responsibility of taking up the slack.

And after last night's performance, after the Super Bowl when Bush made a play, and picked Roethlisberger...I'm starting to gain some confidence in Jarret Bush.

And quite honestly, I'm happy for him. He's worked hard, and he's found his niche.

Good for you, Jarret!

I've always found Bush to be "unlucky." He's made the team for so many years and TT/M3 never make a mistake, much less the same one over and over. He just seems to find himself in weird situations. Like last night, and that punt that bounced weird and hit him and he always seems to be the guy at fault when missed coverages happen and he is the guy diving at the end.
When House's ankle heals up (which could be soon as they didn't IR him and kept him active), he'll be an interesting player to watch should Tramon be down for any period of time. Did some good things in camp and has the physical body and athletic ability TT prefers.

Bush and Lee will get the initial work. But I wouldn't count out House either. He could make a push if we don't have Tramon for awhile.
Don't want Bush in the backfield for any length of time. He seems to have a brain-glitch now and then that costs us. He does some really good things -- the sack, the pass breakup in the EZ -- and then some purely awful and/or questionable things. Example: running that fast that close to the EZ on the punt coverage, why not just keep the ball from crossing the goal line rather than risking a catch at the 1? Granted, it was a heck of a play and the rule needs to be changed so you're down when you're down, but everyone was slipping at the goal line but I thought he needed to be a little more aware of the safer play.
