You may not recognize the name Hermann Zapf, but you certainly recognize his work.  Zapf, a graphic designer, is the creator of the typeface Palatino



which you've certainly seen in all sorts of places.

A decade after creating Palatino, Zapf created the classic sans-serif font Optima:



which I'm sure you'd also recognize even if you don't know its name.  (Goalline, I believe the EPL used Optima on the backs of players' jerseys for several years around 2000 or so.  Wikipedia says 1997-2007.)

Some of you might recognize the name from Zapf Chancery, another of his fonts that made it onto quite a few Windows operating systems.
