Here's my story.

I'm 47 years old and have lived in Chicago or suburban Chicago my entire life. In or about 1970, my mother came home from the local Jewel grocery store with two plastic football helmet banks...one Bears and the other one a Packers helmet. She gave the Bears helmet to my brother and the Packers helmet to me. It sat on my bedroom dresser from that point on. Shortly after receiving it, I noticed that same helmet on our TV screen and must have decided to root for that same team. The Packers are the only team I ever remember cheering for. It's a stupid reason, but it's my reason.

Most people assume I'm originally from Wisconsin, my alligence is so strong! Ironically, my father is originally from Pittsburgh and that is who he and my brother are fans of. I never in a million years thought I would see a Steelers/Packers Super Bowl. I do root for the Pittsburgh Pirates because of my father's influence, but never picked up on that Steeler's fandom.

I married a Bears fan. Wife and daughter root for the Bears, my two boys and myself the green and gold. What a season it has been for my family!

Don't know why, but I have been a Packer fan since being old enough to understand football....even living here in Rochester, just an hour east of Buffalo. My earliest memories of pro football are of a time that followed the glories of Lombardi and the Super Bowls (The first Super Bowl I can remember is number 4, the Vikings and Chiefs). The Packers were mediocre at the time (probably being kind there!) and my first hero was John Brockington. I distinctly remember getting a #42 Packer sweatshirt for Christmas one year.

I suspect I came to love the Packers because I am always drawn to tradition - I am a huge Notre Dame fan as well - and have always found myself cheering for the underdog. I try to explain to my kids how unique this team/franchise is...locally owned, no rich owner lining his pockets. Two of them were by my side yesterday throughout the game - ignoring their need to study for mid-term exams. They shouted even louder than me when Raji scored his TD and when Shields made his pick. Made it one of my favorite Packer games of all time!!

Before I die, I want to complete a dream weekend...taking in a Saturday game at Notre Dame, and then driving up to Green Bay for a Sunday game.
I met a young valet parker at a LAX parking who was a Packer fan. I guess he saw my Packer license plate holder and we started talking about the Packers. It was apparent to me he followed the Packers. He was not from, nor ever stepped his foot in Wisconsin. I asked him how he became a Packer fan. He told me his grandpa, who was from Mexico, was a big Favre's fan and watched Packer games with him when he was a kid. I told the guy I happened to be heading up to Wisconsin for the Lions game (my cousins wedding was the main reason). He was all excited. "Wow really?!! I would kill to be there man, if I ever get a chance!"

When I got back we talked about the game, he was the one who got my car for me. I brought back a Packers key chain and I gave him a pretty good tip!
