Al Bethke is forever a part of x4 lore, almost on par with moran, idot, and/or gebbins.
I read his question as "Who is AI?", as in capital "a" and capital "i", not as "AL". Would be really helpful if some of "these people"1 would not be so ambiguous.
1. - Use of this somewhat racist phrase is mostly attributed to BK.
