Why did official help Patriots avoid penalty before Jets' field goal got blocked?

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Brace yourselves for another officiating controversy involving a field goal at the end of a Jets-Patriots game, America. Because what the heck is this?

Thursday night, Jets kicker Nick Folk tried a 58-yard field goal on the game's final play. The try was obviously a longshot (duh): Folk had never made a kick attempt longer than 56 yards, and this one was blocked by Patriots defensive end Chris Jones. The Patriots won, 27-25, and the Jets got to slink back to Florham Park to figure out what to do, their season in ashes now that they're 1-6 with six straight losses.

I've long believed that the Jets are basically the Queens of the AFC.  The obvious difference is that the Jets at least won one title.  Otherwise:

1. They both work hard to grab headlines off the field as much as possible.

2. They both hump the legs of nearby big brothers (Pats/Packers).

3. They both have a litany of situations in the past where they had everything in front of them and then gagged stupendously.

4. Both of their fan bases whine and whine and whine every time they lose a game, almost always about idiotic, non-controversial things.

5. They both basically suck in the grand scheme of things.

This is another non-issue.  IIRC, the Jets got handed a game against the Pats last year on a pretty questionable call that went against the Pats on a FG attempt.

Just shut up.  You're 1-6.  You stink.
