I haven't read the book, but my wife has, which means I'll go watch it with her in the next couple weeks. Any of you read the books or see the movie? I understand it is a cross between "Twilight" and "Running Man." Ted Nugent praises the girls archery work.

"All of us archers and bowhunters are so very happy to see real honest-to-God archery form being displayed properly for a change," Nugent tells USA TODAY. "Proper archery is one of life's most beautiful ballets, especially when executed by a beautiful woman like Jennifer."

Ted may not be a rocket surgeon or have his masters degree in chemistry, but he does know archery.

Anyone else going to see the movie?

Here are the observations from one who read all three books last year. I thought the film did a good job , but there are some criticisms that I can make.

- the movie goes really fast, and thus does not really bode well for character development. You don't get to really feel Katniss' strength in the film- just glimpses. You never get the sens of how she kept the family together after hewr father's death, her love for Prim, her anger towards her mother.

- The relationships also suffer. Almost no time is spent with her and Gale, so the love triangle doesn't seem to materialize. You barely get to know Prim. You get to know Cinna, but the staff hardly at all- and her amusement at their behavior really shows Katniss' more compassionate side.

- the movie defintely spends some time detailing the Capitol, and this is probably the best representation the film has of the book to me. But because you don't get to see much of the despair of District 12, I didn't really sense the contrast as much as the book portrays.

Overall it was good. There's a lot of things the film just cannot do, especially converting it from first person point of view. It has to become a highlight reel, and the film does well with that.

I would like to get the perspective of a person who didn't read the book and see what they thought of it.
