Yep. He most likely will never be a solid corner, but he is great on ST and had a HUGE INT. Also had a very good play where he hit Ben and caused a miss-throw. Proud of him and the team. Lost 2 leaders on each side of the field this game(par for the course this season) and the TEAM still pulled it out. What a great year
He was lost on that TD at the end of the 2nd quarter, and I thought the Packers were in big trouble heading into the 2nd half with losing CWood. But Bush came up big in this game and he's a monster on special teams. Big props to Bush!
That was an unbelievable play on that pick. Read the QB and jumped the route like C Wood and Tramon would. He's still a liability in coverage on defense but he's become a strength of this team on punt coverage.
Bush was a warrior, like all the Packers today. Talk about a resilient player, Bush has been through a lot and has come out a CHAMPION! I swear he got his second INT on 4th and 5.
I've been knocking Bush for years before starting to come around on him over the second half of the season, but I still don't like seeing him playing a significant role on defense. The guy knows how to get it done on special teams, and I have a feeling our healthier, improved 2011 Packers roster will not need him as much on defense. That INT definitely made up for that missed fumble recovery 3 years ago, tenfold.
Bush was HUGE in this game. Basically took over Woodson's role after the injury and played great. I've ripped the guy for years, but all is forgiven. Congrats Jarrett.
I've listened to Jason Wilde talk about Jarrett Bush and talked about what a great guy off the field he is. It's awesome that a great guy off the field like Bush also did a fine job on the field. Sometimes good guys do finish 1st.
Bush made two big plays in the game, but he was out of position and burned on a lot of other plays. Put it another way- had he played the entire game I don't know if GB wins it.
All that being said, to be fair to him he played better than we're used to seeing from him. I still would not want the guy to be our full time nickel or dime back, but he stepped up today and wasn't a total liability - as he's been at times in the past.
He can't play with his back to the Quarterback...it's that easy.
He always "peeks" over his shoulder at the wrong time . . . deadly against a guy like Rothlesberger . . .
BUT - he is a very good athlete with excellent speed, and is a "teaser," because his play on the field belies his "ability." Against most fans wishes, the Packers keep him because of that athletic ability. He is better in the slot than outside, and he certainly earned his ring with his special teams play all season long...
In fairness to Jarrett Bush, I think most teams once they get down to their 4th or 5th CBs are screwed if those guys end up having to move up into the top 3 CB spots. He might even be an average #4 CB, but he's definitely below average once he's forced to play in any of the top 3 CB spots.
The Packers aren't the only team in the league in that situation. Heck, Pittsburgh's reserve corners looked pretty helpless trying to cover James Jones and Jordy Nelson. They were just lucky that Jones and Nelson tend to drop a few passes a game or the carnage would have been even worse. And these are the 2 best defenses in the NFL. It just shows there's always going to be a shortage of corners on every team.
I've hated on JB in the past & must admit he's been a real surprise. Obviously is a valued member of the team when they make him ST captain.
But some of his shortcomings as a DB aren't totally his fault... he just needs to be utilized correctly. During the 3rd quarter of the game it appeared as if Capers attempted to use Collins to pressure Roethlisberger and run blitz on several occasions with Bush in coverage with poor results. It seemed like Bush was better suited to blitz-- and I really like the hit he laid on Furburger in the 4th quarter. After the debacle in the 2007 NFCC game, Bush came through when it mattered most and was in on the final 4th and 5 play. He's a stand-up guy in my book.
