I fly fish Montana, Idaho, and Oregon.
Yes, he was released and swam away just fine. I'm a huge believer in catch and release. I haven't kept a trout in over 25 years. The last time I kept a salmon was in Alaska in 1997 when we'd keep 1 or 2 each day for a "shore lunch."
Steelhead are considered precious here, and I release all steelhead as well. Unfortunately, I see many more fishermen on the streams these days than I used to, but catch and release really helps.
I still ill have family in Wisconsin, and hope to some day fish the driftless streams, as well as some Lake Michigan tribs for brown trout. The last time I was back was the first time fishing the tribs for Kings, and I did catch some. Great fun!
