96 mil over 5 is about 19 mil a year. That's a fair deal but it all depends how it's stacked and how much AR gets locked up no matter what.

I will say this. One Dree Brees won't be a happy camper. Because if you compare the 2 QB's today, and IF this is an accurate, no way will Brees be breaking the bank from the Saints if the Packers are actually offering this and AR accepts.

It would be hilarious if the Pack lock up Rodgers to another extension before Brees gets his deal done with the Saints.
Leroy Butler works regularly on WSSP in Milwaukee and has several Packer insiders on the show with him including Dunne from JSOnline and GBPG as well.

It's possible he's got sources and unlike tools like Bill Michaels, he's not usually one to spread rumors.

We'll see.

Again if it's true...friggin' hilarious Packers would extend him to this kind of deal meanwhile Brees is still stewing over the Saints.
It is not only what is guaranteed, but also how it is structured. Is it divided evenly between the 5 years or is it front loaded like Peyton Manning's Colt contract was?

Manning's Colt contract was $23 million per year for the first 3 years and then $10.5 million per year for the last two. Manning wasn't going to play for $10.5 mil a year, therefore he had a 3 year deal that would have been restructured and extended giving him more at the back end.

If Rodgers is really getting $19 million per year for 5 years, that is a great deal for the Packers. If he is getting a front loaded contract when we all know he won't play for cheap money the last year or two, it may not be such a good deal.
I am OK with that kind of money, as AROD is worth it. Now we have to trust TT to make sure this doesn't mean Taco Wallace and Allan Rossum at WR in a playoff game. That happens again and I won't blame a star QB for leaving the team.

Pay your stars, but keep enough on hand to have a solid roster. Turns out your nickle back can cost you a game or two, as can a punter, kicker, 3rd down back. When the top 45 are solid, the stars all look better and are happier.

That said, I do trust TT to run that kind of a team. Little dead money, solid vets and a lot of hungry youngsters.
POST

"Checked in with someone who'd know if @AaronRodgers12 was getting a contract extension. The reply? "100% false. There have been zero negotiations. Nothing." That doesn't mean the #Packers and Rodgers' agent, David Dunn, won't strike a deal down the road, or that the team hasn't started budgeting for a new deal. But where @LeRoyButler's Tweet/numbers came from is unclear. Dunn reps Rodgers, Clay Matthews and B.J. Raji, and Rodgers said last year he expected the other two to get new deals first."

guy's so level-headed I bet you could set your cup down on his noggin without balancing. Smiler

quote:
Late last season, Rodgers said on his weekly radio show that he wasn’t worried about when he’d get a new deal, saying, “It’s not something I think about. We were so blessed to be able to have that contract done in 2008. We knew at the time that was more money than I ever could have imagined signing for, and it was a no brainer for me. But we knew if I performed the way I felt I was capable of performing, that by league standards that by the time I got into my third or fourth or fifth season, that I’d be underpaid by league standards.

“But I don’t look at it that way. I look at it as I’m fortunate to make the kind of money I make and be in the situation I’m in and be with the Packers’ organization. I want to retire as a Packer. They know that, the fans know that, my teammates know that, and this is where I want to be. I’m not worried about (a new contract). We’re still a few years away from me completing this deal, and whenever it comes time to make a new deal, I’m looking forward to maybe signing my last deal, playing it out, and retiring.”
As much as I love ARod, and I do, the past experience with TOG has made me a LOT more skeptical when it comes to guys saying, "I want to play with one team for life, the money's great, I'm happy with my contract, I love it here, etc." Now I say, "PROVE IT." If ARod really means it, we'll see him sign another 10- or 12-year deal the year before this deal is up and then we'll see him finish that contract with a smile on his face the whole way. Then my faith will be restored! Big Grin

What happens if the Packers replace Rodgers before he plays out that last contract and retires? Does he go away quietly like most Packer Fans would want him to do, or does he go somewhere else if he thinks he can play a couple more years? It's nice he is saying all the right things, it's much more difficult to walk away if you think you can still play.
I think Rodgers has a pretty good idea when he wants to walk away from the game already. I could see the Packers giving him a 5 year deal at the end of 2013 that would carry him until he's 35.

I honestly don't see him playing past that. He made a few comments after his concussions in 2010 that he wants to enjoy the rest of his life.

You never know. But he doesn't strike me as a guy who needs football, the attention, or the spotlight. I don't think he's going to agonize over moving on.
These two posts just belong together....

I tend to be skeptical too but then I remember that ARodg isn't an insecure inbred, white-trash, ignorant hillbilly assclown, and then I feel better.

Rodgers learns a lot by watching how others handle their business and he was the one who saw it all first-hand during the Fiasco.

Zero chance he goes down that path.

He's going to follow the Bart Starr playbook and be a Packer we're all proud of forever

It's pretty wild to think about where the Packers would be today if TT didn't select Aaron Rodgers in 2005. Or if Rodgers didn't turn out the way he did.

How much worse would the venom toward Favre be today if the Packers had scuffled through mediocrity for the past 4 years with a marginal QB? Would TT and MM still be here? Would the new addition be going in at Lambeau? The recent stock sale would have never taken place.

Rodgers has been so good that he's even starting to soften the hard feelings about Favre pissing all over 17 years of loyalty and support from Packer fans. If Aaron wins another SB he'll help Brett's legacy in GB even more (and Brett will never realize or acknowledge this, which is what makes him the supersized dickhead he is)

Rodgers had NO other option but to come up roses in Green Bay. There was no happy ending unless he did what he's done.

And after all that Aaron Rodgers will never forget the confidence and trust given to him by TT and MM. I honestly believe he never will. He's going to retire a Packer. And by doing so give Packer fans the satisfaction of having a legend walk away the way it's suppose to happen.

Every time Boris. It just never gets old.
I couldn't imagine Rodgers playing under a different head coach. It would never be the same if MM were to leave during AR12's tenure with the Pack. TT and MM drafted him and got him outta that green room. Then brought him up to play at a pro level and succeed. Then had trust and faith in him to give him the keys to drive the team after Brett left. And the rest is history.
from Football Outsiders :

"How good was Aaron Rodgers last year? He threw just six picks, but he's even lower in a stat Football Outsiders calls "adjusted interceptions." Two of his picks were catchable balls that bounced off the hands of his receivers before being picked off, and Rodgers didn't throw a single "dropped interception" (a pass that would have been a pick except the defender dropped an easy catch)."
