terribly wrong about QB Matt Flynn...

He just dropped to number 3 on the Raiders depth chart and his chances of getting another shot at a starting QB gig are nil

I thought he was going to be a middle- of -the- road starter, I thought he could possibly be franchised to garner a draft pick

I thought he would have multiple suitors and that he was going to have a decent NFL career

I was wrong on all fronts; he has regressed since he left GB

( but he's at least $12 million richer for the experience)

Maybe he'll come back to GB and finish his career backing up Rodgers...

Don't be too hard on yourself, Satori.

I likely had the same thoughts as you; that he is/was a winner and would be a solid, mid-tier QB at the least.

But, I don't know that he ever got the chance he should've. It's hard to second-guess the Seahawks because Wilson has played very well, but who can say Flynn wouldn't have flourished in the same circumstance?

Oakland started out about the same, but given their cap situation and lack of talent everywhere, nobody is going to do very well there for the immediate future.

I'll ditto your thoughts on him returning to Green Bay. Ahhhh, nostalgia...

I seem to recall the knock on Flynn coming into the league was that he had a fairly low ceiling (although it turned out to be a lot higher than Brian Brohm's).  The New England game in 2010 and the Detroit game in 2011 were pleasant surprises, or unpleasant in the sense that there would be no way TT could re-sign him to a modest deal to continue backing up Rodgers.

I've considered this as well... 6 TDs don't just happen to 3rd string Raider QBs, does it?

I'll hang up and listen for the insightful analysis of the Iowa copper on why Flynn sucks.

Comfort level here no doubt helped Flynn as did playing in the same system, playing with arguably the best WR corps in the NFL, and not to mention he had no pressure here of being the starting QB.

I think his confidence was shaken pretty good after he couldn't beat out RW, especially at the salary he was making.

I don't think it's so much having trouble learning a new system as perhaps he was just a better fit in McCarthy's system. Maybe he didn't have the skill set that was needed in Seattle or Oakland.

But then, what do I know?

Watching Tannehill on Monday night leads me to believe Philbin knows how to get a lot out of a marginal QB. Tannehill really wants to suck but Joe is doing everything possible to not let him. That Joe didn't go after Flynn is pretty telling stuff.

It has to be coaching. Some guys thrive in certain settings. Whatever is was, McCarthy knew how to exploit Flynn's abilities. Take him out of that element, nothing left. Lots of players like that over the course of time. Talent may be some of it, but coaching is bigger IMO...

It's simple! He does not have the receivers he had in GB.  He played what, two good games for us? Sample size was way too small, but yet everyone placed him high on the pedestal; thus over rated.  I am not surprised.  But, I have to admit, that was one hell of a game he played against the Lions.  Wow!

I doubt that happens.  He may not get another starter offer but I'm sure he'd prefer to go to a team where the QB was at least iffy or in danger of losing his job.  He comes back to GB and he pretty much has to resign to riding the pine for 16 games.

There's no shame in losing the job to Russell Wilson and if there is any regression it appears to be Oakland-related. The reality is probably in the middle- he was never as good as many Packer fans thought and he's not as bad as the Raider coaching staff would like you to believe.

I'm inclined to agree with MC that at least part of this is related to coaching.

Best gig on the planet. Get paid 7 figures & don't have to do anything

LONG SACK OF THE WEEK

"Raiders quarterback Matt Flynn was sacked seven times this week. Four of those sacks were largely out of his control. Tony Pashos was beaten for a pair of sub-3.0 second sacks and Andre Gurode and Khalif Barnes each gave up one.

But one of the reasons Flynn went from starting to third string this week is the other three sacks. Twice he held the ball for 3.5-3.7 seconds only to watch a solid pocket fall apart. And there was an 8.1-second epic where Flynn held the ball, thought over what to do with it for a while, then eventually tried to take off, getting run out of bounds."
