Aren't we doing the same thing for an OC?

Decent summary of the terrible game planning by MM. That, for example, James Jones who is GB's leading WR and among the league leaders in TD receptions was not targeted a single time last night is f-ing ridiculous. MM once again had no answers for a cover 2 defense with safeties playing high is yet another mind boggling gaffe on his part since he could see that defense coming from miles away. It's the 3rd time in 12 mos he's faced this team. Underneath routes yet again would have been there. No WR's lined up that way to move the chains. No slant passes, nothing.

I'm not saying Joe Philbin was some Guru geenyus but don't we have to question whether MM needs to go out and find a real OC???

QB has to actually throw the ball to get a pass completion.

If you can't protect him with 5 blockers, use 6.

I don't think the pass routes were the problem. Replays showed open receivers all night long.

And is that also why all routes seemed to be downfield primarily?? You throw short to intermediate passes along with a run game to help protect behind a porous offensive line such as ours.
Probably turnip, but it should not take a HC/OC 3.999 quarters to figure out your makeshift OL isn't opening up holes to establish a real running game therefore let's go to something else. MM's lack of figuring out adjustments to this type of defense is disturbing.

Maybe underneath routes, using the middle of the field, short slants etc aren't the most glamerous thing in the world but for fu** sakes at least try them.

Now as I say all this, in all probability this offense will look far better if in fact Jennings returns next week.
Packerboi,

A couple things: I think MM is very very stubborn. I think he believes his team can out execute the other time every time he sets foot on the field. This seems to be his fault, that he will not adapt.(within a game) I said wtf a couple times last night when Rodgers was getting killed and MM went to Big Five. That just gives the Giants the green light to kill the QB. Perhaps in the past Philbin had the chutzpah to call MM on these things during the game. Last night just spiraled out of control early. I was hoping after the bye and MM's self scouting that there would be more tight end usage and running back drop offs.

Did we not hear that for last year's playoff game the Giants were told to ignore play fakes and just rush Rodgers? Seems that is the word on how to beat the Packers. Let them run and kill Rodgers because MM's patterns are all designed to pressure the back part of the secondary. But, if the qb is laying on his back you are hosed.

Stubborn/arrogance definitely playing a role here...
I think the problem is not the play calling. The problem is the Packers interior line, EDS and Saturday cannot get the job done. Quick pass plays require short pass drops, but the interior of the line is collapsing to fast. To get away from the pressure the QB needs to move, once that happens there is no longer a quick play. That is why the Wides are ending up so deep on many pass plays. Also with the center and guard being blown into the back field the running game is finished. Then with the tackles getting beat badly there is not much the QB can do. At that point MM best move is to protect Rodgers as best he can, the game is already lost.
As it stands now all teams are going attack the Packers interior line, there is simply not a lot MM can do to fix the problem this year. Next year get the injured guys back, move Lang back to the interior line, draft a couple O-line men things will get better in a hurry. Heck if the line play improves the Packers may even have a run game.
But that is a plan for next year, this year is kind of lost already.
Ron Wolf "you have to have five (linemen) to play". I think right now the Packers have 3 at best.

Yep, like I posted in a different thread, MM is not coaching the team he has but the team he thinks he has.
What is the deal with MM refusing to use Starks on a consistent basis for 1 game? This is just like '10. Starks shows promise in a game and then goes MIA. It's I'm going let Green get stuffed behind the line of scrimmage on every first and second down until it's time to throw the ball every down! McCarthy's stubbornness may be this teams biggest flaw.
Since I am specifically a Packer fan, I don't follow many teams too closely, but I have always been amazed that the Patriots put up scores of points most weeks. Is their OLine that much better or is it scheme? Brady throws a ton of short passes it seems and has great patience. Packers receivers would seem to have an edge on the Pats, but the Pats have better TEs when Gronk is healthy.

Thoughts?
The Packers Defense is better than the Pats. Give the Rookies a year we should see a big difference.
I think Ted took a chance this year and did what he could to fix the D. Saturday just is not working out, Sherrod never recovered, CDS is not a guard. It just is not the Packers year.
Next year get Bulaga back, Lang back inside then let Sherrod, Marshall, Bulaga and a 3rd tackle compete for the 2 starting positions. Draft a big guard in the 4 or 5th round to develop into a center type.
The Packers will also be looking for a wide receiver and Tight End, big D line body.
I think the Packers picks next year will be 1,2,3,4,4,4,5,6,7,7 a lot of opportunity to go shopping for some centers and guards later in the draft.

The Patriots best lineman has been out for a couple of weeks. The line coach in NE is excellent, unlike that stiff Campen.
I'm also unclear what MM's game plans are these days. I don't get what he's trying to do because he has no consistency. I have also been baffled by his lack of in-game adjustments. It seems like he hasn't been adjusting, but rather being stubborn about trying to stick to his game plan despite getting our arses kicked. I am beginning to think Philbin was far more integral to our offensive success than anyone knew.
McCarthy might need to take a couple snaps in practice if this offensive line gets any more offensive. Save old man Saturday for the playoffs. Drive up Mason street and get a guy from the Oneida smoke shop. O.K. it's racist, get him in here anyway.
