I can understand why the NFL wants to restrict active rosters during the regular season. But I think once a team gets into the playoffs their entire roster of eligible players should be active and allowed to play if needed. I think it would then be 59 players?

Currently it seems quite unfair for inactive players, most who have practiced and contributed throughout the season, to get slotted for sideline duty and watch the game in sweats.

Case-in-point, Donald Driver, the guy has been exemplary as a Packer ever since he made the team years ago. Now it almost seems sad to read that he had to beseech the coaches for a chance to just suit up and maybe get on the field. Driver ain't the only player to be faced with this situation too.

Imagine getting to the Super Bowl with high hopes to play and then your position coach tells you that you gotta sit this one out. After months and years of working to play in the biggest football in the world, you are relegated to a spectator.

So if'n I was on the Commish's rules committee, I'd be proposing this change.

#80 is one of my favorite Packers of all time....I put him up there with #66 and Willie Wood. Tough guys. Packers. Who can forget DD going over the middle, catching the ball, taking BIG hits, making over a decade of big plays. But there comes a time for all to go.

Donalds time has come. Thanks for the memories. No need to change the rules for him or any one player.

The first point against making all players eligible is it would put any team with more current injuries at a disadvantage, since they would have fewer players to substitute in during the game (which is the reason for the active/inactive rosters in the first place).

The second point is that the teams reached the playoff with a set of rules. Those rules should not suddenly change in the post season.
