Frank is the best college player. He won't be the best pro player.  There may be 4 future NBA players on this team. Frank is a perfect player for the Spurs. I hope he ends up someplace like that.

Dekker is probably under appreciated. We've just gotten used to the highlight reel plays. He's frustrating at times in disappearing, but he's got to be close to top 5 to play For UW.

Hayes is a legit NBA forward just based on shooting range.

The best college guy of all might turn out to be Koenig. If he gets the freedom that Devin Harris did, I can see him averaging over 20 ppints and 7 assists. i think there is some announcer bias at times because he's a white PG. He changes direction on offense as quick as any PG Bucky has ever had. He breaks guys ankles on a nightly basis and obviously has three point range.

I was as impressed as anyone by what Smokey did as a freshman, but that season was not the best I've ever seen from a Badger (leading that team in stats, lets put a little context to that).  Freshman of the year in the Big Ten is a big deal, National player of the year is what Frank is doing this year.

If Dekker sticks around next year (I doubt it), he has a chance.  Bronson could also get to that level, especially considering how much he grew already this year.  I don't think he will have a pro career like Finely, bu right now, what Frank is doing, is unlike what any Badger has done before him.

What Kaminsky has done at Wisconsin is nothing short of amazing.  He was not a highly recruited guy but has developed into a dominant college player.  He's surpassed guys like Finley and Harris and Tucker by a mile IMO.

Koenig is the most intriguing guy on the roster because he is a bigger guy, he hits shots, and he simply does not turn the ball over. He might have the best tools of any UW player that translates to the pros.  The scary thing is he just gets better.

Whoa, there kemosabe.  He isn't white.

Good article, Maynard - thanks.

I forget which tournament game it was last year (I think Arizona), but Koenig came in for Jackson and his contribution was enormous.

I really like him.

Kaminsky is the best Badger by a lot. Mike Finley went on to a great pro career, but he wasn't as good as FK is now. Devin Harris too- great procareer, Frank is better. Tucker was a player of the year, a distinguished college player- Frank is better.

He is the best all around player in the programs history. If he was more selfish he'd have better #s, but that's why he's the best. Inside, outside, passing, footwork, unselfishness, size, basketball iq... The total package.

Here's their write-up on the Big Ten winner.

Big Ten â€” Frank Kaminsky (Wisconsin)

It’s a common tactic in sports debates to tear down the opposing point of view to build up one’s own. Ask a fan of a team on the bubble why their team deserves a spot in the NCAA tournament, and they’ll probably tell you why other bubble teams shouldn’t get in. The goal isn’t always to win these arguments â€” it’s to make your opponent lose. I won’t take that approach here. Okafor is a fine basketball player. He’s the rightful first pick in the draft. But Kaminsky deserves to be named national player of the year.

If you start explaining Kaminsky’s game to someone and the words “efficient” and “versatile” aren’t among the first out of your mouth, you’re doing something wrong. And it’s worth emphasizing: Kaminsky’s versatility is real, and it’s spectacular. So often, guys who are tall and can shoot get tagged with the “versatile” label when they’re just as one-dimensional as traditional back-to-the-basket big men. Bo Ryan could give Kaminsky any set of rules â€” don’t dribble; dribble at least five times before shooting; stay on the block all game; stay outside the 3-point line all game; use only your left hand â€” and Kaminsky would still probably find a way to score 20 points.

Of all the great numbers Kaminsky puts up, the two most impressive are his 2.6 assists and 1.6 fouls per game. That’s double the assists he averaged last year and almost an entire foul fewer. It’s one thing to be a versatile scorer. But Kaminsky has taken his game to mind-blowing heights by being second on Wisconsin in assists, even though he’s teammates with two of the best point guards in college basketball. And if Kaminsky’s scoring and passing aren’t impressive enough, consider this: How many 7-footers play 32 minutes per game, aren’t awful defensively, and never get into foul trouble?
