Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy spoke to the media after practice on Wednesday. Here are some highlights:

Packers Injury report

Limited in practice: LB Sam Barrington (hamstring), DE Josh Boyd (knee). Did not practice: WR Jarrett Boykin (groin), DE Datone Jones (ankle).

On facing former assistant Joe Philbin, now the Miami Dolphins' coach:

Obviously, this is the first time getting the opportunity to playing a Joe Philbin football team.

On Philbin's contribution to the Packers:

Excellent football coach. A great family man and the love he has for his family and his ability to be dedicated to this professional. There's a personal side and professional side to every encounter. They're coming off a bye week. We have a little extra time ourselves. This is a game both of us need.

On cold, windy weather at practice before a game in Miami:

We're educated on hydration. It's an everyday deal for us. We'll be ready I feel confident.

On rookie defensive tackle Luther Robinson:

Luther did a nice job. He's obviously competing to play this week. That's what you want. Competition is healthy. I like the quality of work Luther has put together so far.

On Boykin:

He won't practice tomorrow. So he'll be challenged to play this week. Kevin Dorsey deserved the opportunity. He put together a good body of work to make our 53. He'll definitely help us.

On Jones:

I'd put Datone Jones in a day-to-day category.

On Dorsey:

He was probably one of our best special-teams players in preseason from what I saw. He made some big-time catches. He's a tough guy, tough minded individual.

On playing well in October:

I do know, but I don't want to jinx it. Just want to keep it going.

On Miami's defense:

The pass rush jumps off the film at you. A very athletic defense. There's a heightened awareness for us.

On quarterback Aaron Rodgers' 12:1 touchdown-to-interception ratio:

Your No. 1 objective is to take care of the football and it starts with the quarterback position. He's excellent at that and has been his whole career. Anytime ball is turned over, it's something your football team has to overcome. I think Aaron has done a great job.

On what makes for a great quarterback:

Their understanding of the game. Obviously, the physical talents they have, gifted athletes, but just the way they see the game. They see the things before they happen. They're anticipating. The game really slows down for them. I think quarterback coming into the NFL are further ahead in that category.

On Philbin's comments about watching Pro Bowl quarterbacks in 2008 and comparing them to Rodgers:

I remember conversations. Joe was calling the game for us and he wouldn't run the ball, and we had Adrian Peterson. Peterson ended up winning the MVP. That's really what happens when you go to the Pro Bowl. I remember Marty Schottenheimer telling me in 1993 to pay attention to the players because these are the best of the best.

On trying to get 75 plays on offense:

We need to have longer drives. (Punter) Tim Masthay had a great week last week. It's not the goal. We're aware of it. It's five games. It's something we're aware and focused on.

On special-teams coverage units:

If I was to pick an MVP of our special teams, I'd pick (safety) Sean Richardson. I think he's clearly our best player in production and attitude. I like what we're doing on special teams. We're playing to our personnel. Our speed is better than it's been.

Packers Injury report

On Jones:

I'd put Datone Jones in a day-to-day category.

I won't get a coffin but I have a stretcher ready for him to rush to the ER.

Miami hasn't been kind to the Packers over the years, only 1-6 all-time.

I also think the Packers don't play well in high-heat and/or high-humidity locations, historically.

The forecast for Sunday is a high of 85 (kickoff temp @78-79), 70% humidity, a 10-15 mph wind from the East, and a 30% chance of a thundershower.

Even if these may not be ideal conditions for the Pack, our offense should be very productive, especially if the rushing attack is productive.

I just hope our defense doesn't wear down by the 4th qtr.

Rookie center Corey Linsley said he loves playing in extreme temperatures -- either scorching heat or bone-chilling cold.

"I like it because I feel like the hot is like, you get like delusional, you just stop caring," said Linsley, a native of Youngstown, Ohio. "Like I feel like when it's just hot, I feel like 'Oh man! It’s hot, like shoot.' You start like complaining. But when it's like really hot, and really humid and you’re like 'Dude this sucks. I'm going to go as hard as I can.'"

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy met with the media on Thursday following practice. Here are select comments from his press conference:

  • On David Bakhtiari added to the injury report: Just being smart today at practice. His back was bothering him a little bit.
  • On coming off the mini-bye: Energy's been good this week. This is our big practice, our padded practice. We probably added six or seven minutes with the fundamentals. â€Ķ I thought our guys did a good job.
  • On J.C. Tretter potentiall returning next week: I really don't have an update for you, but I can tell you that he does look good in just the limited amount of time I've seen him inside the Hutson Center.
  • On the Dolphins run game: I think really, from my view, their offense the first two years is different from now. ... It's very comparable to Philadelphia.
  • On the Dolphins pass rush: Anytime you play against good pass rushers, it's a challenge, especially on the road. â€Ķ It's a big challenge and will be a focal point for us as we continue our preparation.
  • On unscouted looks from Miami: There will definitely be some things that go on in the game that we haven't seen. â€Ķ I think it's clearly, it will be a percentage of things.
  • On his respect for Joe Philbin: I think it really comes down to the fundamentals. The Dolphins are going to run their schemes, the things that they like. â€Ķ Taking care of the football will be big, as it always is on the road, in that climate.
  • On the Packers pass rush: I feel good about where our pass rush is so far. Our game against Minnesota is the most productive we've been in some time. 16 hits, that's a big night.
  • On Davante Adams: I think Davante is his own player, and I think Jordy and Randall are different sytles of receivers. â€Ķ I think he's got a very, very bright future. I like the way he practiced today.

From Mike's presser today, injury situation for Sunday.

@TyDunne: Inj:

Boykin (groin) out
Barrington (hamstring) questionable
D. Jones (ankle) questionable
Bakhtiari (back) probable
Boyd (knee) probable

@WesHod: MM on Datone: Talked to him this morning. Feeling better. We'll see what he can do tomorrow. Unable to go yesterday.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy spoke to the media on Friday. Here are some highlights from his news conference:

Packers Injury report – Out: WR Boykin (groin), Quest: ILB Barrington (hamstring), DL Jones (ankle). Probable: DL Boyd (knee), T Bakhtiari (back)

On Datone Jones:

Talked to him this morning. Feeling better. We'll see what he can do tomorrow. Unable to go yesterday. â€Ķ If we were practicing today, I'd hope he'd be out there in some form or fashion

On balancing how a player feels against medical situation:

You have to know players and rely on your medical staff. Sometimes when you talk to them, it's useless. I've never been told 'I can't play.

On Corey Linsley:

I think from a confidence standpoint with Corey, no one ever wavered because what you were able to see him do in training camp. He's one of those guys, as a rookie, that came in here and you knew right away he belonged. First day of pads, this guy – he's a powerful young man and fit right in. That's why I was never worried about him because mentally he's very sharp, very detailed, played in a big time program. He has a lot of things going for him. I will say this, if things keep going the way they're going, I think we'll look back on this start as one of the more impressive situations a young player has stepped up and performed in my time here, and we've had a lot guys step up.

On what 94 Alpha means:

It's something for our locker room. 94th team in the history of the Packers

On Nick Perry:

Nick Perry is a good football player. He's a productive player and has been. Hopefully, this is the year he jumps over that hurdle

On Kevin Dorsey:

Kevin, I have a lot of confidence in him. If he needs to play, we'll put him right in there and cut him loose

On Eddie Lacy:

I'm hoping to feature Eddie, get him his touches, he's one of our best players. James is a 3-down player. We have confidence in both

On the offense:

We averaged 70 plays last year. If we were more efficient, we thought we could do 75 plays. We've been on different path. â€Ķ We need to be more efficient. We need more seven-plus play drives.

Tretter has done nothing to date. Good in practice. I guess that's better than guys like Sherrod who have been a negative thus far. still have hopes for DS to get better.

It's the dew point >70 that makes your sweat not evaporate (a highly desired thing that cools us), so we overheat.  Its not so much about relative humidity, or temps.

Except TT changed his drafting style on Oline because of the continual failure of development.  Tretter may be the first "tweener/transition" candidate in years.  Hence why TT went for a guy with the big, big brains to offset the inevitable fail of coaching.
