He is shooting a 35.5% from three, the worst he has shot from 3 since his rookie season. He’s averaging a career high 3 turnovers/game. He’s shooting the second lowest from 2 in his career at 46.5%, and overall, shooting just 41.9%, a career worst. With all the games they are not playing with a full lineup, they need their 2-time All Star to come ready to play. And he’s not.

They will not compete for another Title if they are getting this as a return of their max contract investment. He’s not a good athlete- a 6’8” wing who plays below the rim at a position where he’s up against many of the games best athletes. I know he’s tight with Giannis, but the Bucks seriously need to think about Middleton’s future. With 2 years and $77M left on his deal, and a window with their superstar wide open the next 5 years, every year wasted with a player offering a diminishing return is a catastrophe. Horst really needs to asking the tough questions.

Call him out for a mediocre start to the year after dealing with some injuries?

He was 9 for 16 from the floor tonight for 25 points. 25-6-4.

40, 29, 29, 38, 32, 26, 38, 35, 25, 27.

Those are some of the games Middleton put up in last year's playoffs. The guy scored 40 in a Finals game less than 5 months ago. He's made some of the biggest shots in Bucks history in the playoffs last year during 4th quarters and overtimes when the pressure and the defensive intensity is the highest. He was going back and forth with Kevin Durant shot for shot in some games.

He played in the NBA Finals and then the Olympics. He had COVID and has had a couple of injuries this year and is coming back from them.

He has proven he can produce in some of the highest pressure playoff pressure situations. He's proven he can thrive while playing with Giannis.

He's not going anywhere.

Teams are attacking him, and he’s proving that halfway through the season he can  put up career worst numbers and help the Bucks slide down the EC standings.

The Bucks are not paying him to be Rudy fucking Gay, or iso Joe- to go out there are get the ball like he’s a superstar and have him kicking the ball around the yard. He’s averaging career high usage and all his advanced statistics are way down, including WS, with near career worst shooting averages. You get paid like a star you better play like one… and he’s not.

And here’s the deal- it’s only going to get harder.  That Championship window involves playing 100 games a season for the next several seasons. You go through one playoff run and start crumbling the first follow-up season? That means you’re not “built for this”.
