Vying for the #1 pick in the 2014 NFL Draft along with the Cleveland Browns, I give you der Jets. While it's pretty clear Rex is a one-year scapegoat for the new GM they at least rid themselves of Timmy Teblow (and his refusal to consider playing TE for the Jets and at least two other teams). Of course the 'Timmy's a victim' articles have been popping up but at least the Jets replaced that freaky headcase on the roster, right?

Ummm, maybe not. Just a different kind of head case.
Geno Smith fires his agent for not being taken in the first round.

"ESPN's Suzy Kolber reported that Smith was not going to attend Day 2 of the draft, but Smith changed his mind and returned to Radio City Music Hall on Friday. Smith was selected by the New York Jets with the eighth pick in Round 2, the 39th overall pick in the draft, which is expected come with a contract worth just under $5 million with over $3.1 million in guaranteed money. Had Smith been selected in Round 1, his contract would be worth, at minimum, $6.7 million with around $5.4 million in guaranteed money.

The financial difference, as well as having to return to a green room for a second day, appear to be the reason why Smith is changing agents."

So his agent said "Don't be a little beyotch and hurt your stock more by puting out of town, get your butt back in there and show 'em you're not going to let a little adversity get you down" and he fires him? Probably will try not to pay back the fronted money for training, travel and clothing too.

Is Andrew talking about the SEC players when agents get them coming out of High School? cause that'd be about right.

Probably why they cut him.

Oh wait you weren't talking about the guy that told the Jets to pound sand when they asked him to run the wildcat because he was sad he wasn't named starter. You were talking about a kid that simply fired his agent.

Kind of odd that the guy that defended Tebow and his actual prima donna act would already make assumptions with Smith based on nothing.

I wonder what's different between the two situations.
Smith is going to be a monumental bust. I knew this for sure after watching him on Gruden's QB School. Very unimpressive. He's walking in with a bad attitude and there's going to be ANOTHER QB controversy in NY. Seems like an awesome way of running a team.

If I were that GM and I had a QB like Sanchez who may or may not be my QB going forward, I would focus on building the rest of the team. He did good getting a lockdown CB like Dee Milliner and really talented DL in Sheldon Richardson, but he passed on some big needs to take Smith. He could have gotten a really good, dependable WR in Robert Woods. He could have grabbed another good DL in Jonathan Hankins or gotten better at ILB with Arthur Brown. Or another talented pass rusher in Tank Carradine. He could have gotten a QB like Barkley or Nassib MUCH later (although he didn't know that at the time). I would have built around Sanchez so if he fails, there's no question what the problem is. And then you already have a solid team for the next coach/QB combo you bring in.

Instead he decided to ignite a QB controversy. Really really dumb.

Exactly. Sanchez has shown he can be an effective QB in the right system, i.e. strong defense and running game with play action passing. He won some impressive road games early in his career. Playoff games at that. Maybe he can't carry a team like AR12, but the Jets got away from what made them successful just a few years ago. Taking Gino was a real head scratcher.

Of course, controversy in NY is almost as much fun as controversy in Chicago or Queenieland.

Part of Geno Smith's draft day fall may be explained by his reported inattentiveness and lack of interaction during some of his pre-draft visits.

In a report from Yahoo Sports' Jason Cole, two different sources said that Smith, selected in the second round by the New York Jets, spent time on his cellphone texting friends and checking out Twitter rather than interacting with coaches on the visit.

"All these other players who were in there were talking to the coaches, trying to get to know people and he was over there by himself," one of the sources said. "That's not what you want out of your quarterback."

Mess.
they get rid of the tebow circus and then give a ticket to a new clown car to enter the tent. I've never seen Geno play but he appears to have a self-entitlement problem. should be quite interesting to watch from a distant this fall with my bowl of popcorn.
A QB competition between Sanchez, Gerrard, Smith, McElroy, and Matt Simms is the same thing as a "1/4 mile for pink slips" between a Pacer, Pinto, Prius, Yugo and a 1983 Wagon Queen Family Truckster. Someone has to win. Two of them won't make it to the finish line. And one of them is going to end up engulfed in flames.

Q: What is the most important feature of a Yugo?

A: A rear window defroster so your hands don't get as cold while you're pushing it.
