Russian doesn't have the equivalent of the letter J, at least, not with the sound in English names like John or James. They have to approximate it with a D plus a ZH sound, as in Π”ΠΆΠΎΡ€Π΄ΠΆ Π‘ΡƒΡˆ. They don't have the English H either; only the guttural H as in Scots "loch".

It was a pain when I had to give my initials for my first and middle names in Russia (it's normal in print to refer to people formally by the initials of their given name and patronymic, followed by the family name), since one of them is a J.
