It made me wonder…. Why is English so hard?

My current favorite that has developed over the last couple of years is the word "straight" has replaced the word "consecutive" when writing about streaks, records, and similar.

"The team has won 8 games straight".
"The team has won 8 consecutive games".

They may both be correct. But one "reads" much better than the other.

I think Pete Carroll knew exactly what he had in Russ - a QB with major limitations that he surrounded with all the right pieces and right coaching.  Then the whole "let Russ cook" stuff was being pushed by his camp and Carroll was done with his ungrateful a$$.  Fleeced the Broncos in that trade and the rest is history.  Russ may go down as the least self aware QB in NFL history.  To not realize what he had in Seattle and ask to be traded?  It'll cost him the HOF.

But have to wonder - is Sean Payton tanking for the #1 pick?  Broncos had less talent last year and Hackett took them to 5 wins.

Payton finishing with a worse record than Hackett did last year would certainly be fun.

As an aside. I am mortally wounded by no love for my thread title…read it to Mrs.Kiel and she said it was “One of my best.” And she does not give praise casually. 😀 Boris, I’m up for renewal on my content contract and I’m leaning towards a deal with X.

You need to find one of the agents who made these deals.

Broncos trade then give Wilson his contract.

Giants giving Jones his contract.

Browns trade then giving Watson his contract.

Texans giving Osweiler his contract.

Yeah, but Payton gets to face Joe Barry’s defense. Russ will probably secure a HOF spot.

I was thinking about that last night watching the Broncos.  They had a RB who ran for a quick 18 yard running play against the Chiefs.  My first thought was shit he is going to go nuts against Barry's defense.  Yes I am being honest when I say I am nervous about the Broncos beating the Packers even as bad as they are.

I don’t know how anybody could expect the Packers to beat the Broncos based on the product they’ve put on the field over last two games.

I don’t like Payton or Wilson, but they’ve done a lot of winning in the NFL over the last several years. Methinks they’ll get things turned around in Denver at some point…..at least enough to beat the shittier teams in the league.  And right now the Packers look to be one of those teams.

I hope i’m wrong.

Interesting that you mention this, as I had been thinking since last week...
It seems that there are a LOT of teams that are paying ultra-premium QB contracts that are producing marginal (at best) performance.
It's been building over the last couple of years, but there are so many now.
In addition to the ones you listed, I'll add Jackson (Ravens), Murray (AZ), and Prescott (Cowboys). And these are guys that are averaging $40M or more per year. If I add in guys that average $30M+/year, that's a full quarter of the league with these "upside-down" contracts.

The craziest thing is I'll bet when the new round of extensions come around, prices will be higher than ever, when they really should be regressing.
