ESPN released a statement today that broadcaster Mike Tirico and ex-coach John Gruden would man a two-man booth for "Monday Night Football" in 2012. This will be the first time in 15 years that ESPN has used a two-man booth. Buried in the news release is the fact that Ron Jaworski has signed a new 5-year contract with the network but his duties will no longer include Monday night football games.

Jaworski has been in the "Monday Night Football" booth for the past five seasons. He originally joined ESPN in 1990 and has worked in a number of roles from sideline reporter to studio host to analyst. He will now take more of an analyst role and his duties will include appearing on "Sunday NFL Countdown", "NFL Matchup", "NFL Live", "NFL Kickoff", "Mike & Mike in the Morning" and PTI's "Five Good Minutes." He also will be featured in ESPN's NFL draft and Super Bowl programming.

"I thank Ron for the great contributions he has made to 'Monday Night Football' and look forward to the many ways he will enhance our studio presentation from our NFL-branded shows to 'SportsCenter,' " ESPN president John Skipper said in the statement. "With two strong analysts in Ron and Jon, these moves will better utilize their strengths and benefit our entire NFL presentation."

While this is not being presented as a demotion for "Jaws", it is likely both media and fans will see it as one. It is also a curious move in light of the ever-present possibility that Jon Gruden could leave the booth to return to coaching.

Gruden's man-crush on EVERYBODY (players, coaches, etc.) has rendered MNF almost unwatchable. Jaws provided a much-needed buffer to Chucky. Now that Jaws is gone, the only time I'll watch MNF is when the Saints play on Monday night. However, Gruden's creepy man-love for Brees and Payton will make that an insufferable experience.
If Jaws is going to be on the draft coverage can we be fairly certain Gruden won't be? Man-crush continues just as hard over there. Every pick is genius. Evvery team is now a contender. Having him and Steve Young there two years ago was embarassing.
Jaws ramped up his banter as he started getting lost in Gruden's babbling wake, to the point where Jaws became almost as unbearable as Gruden. Tirico and Gruden...Yikes. Hoping GB misses out on Monday Night this year.

Agreed. Like most who end up at he had a few things about him that I wasn't crazy about, but I liked the way he could break down the game. Trico and "That Guy" are going to be tough to listen to.

I was just thinking the same thing except the only time I would watch was when the Packers played.

I can stomach a little bit more of Gruden than I can of that freaking voice Tirico has

They'll be on MNF probably twice in 2012 & probably opening the season vs. the Giants

Maybe the Thursday opener... 9/6/2012?

But the opener is on NBC I think, not espn. MNF will become unlistenable. Just mute it and watch the game that way or listen to Westwood 1 on the radio.
My impression was that once the drunk came into the booth Jaws was just dumbfounded.

I always pictured him sitting there with his mouth hanging open, his eyes bulging out, and his ear bleeding over having heard Gruden giving annointing even the waterboy as a future HOF'er.

I think Jaws simply gave up on his job after awhile. Then he attempted to play it more like Gruden, but he stopped---IMO because he knew he was full of sheet--unlike the drunk who doesn't realize he is full of sheet.

I do that too.. Or used to... The delay frustrates me... Red Face
Gruden wasn't afraid to be critical of players before he made it to MNF. Now he has become nauseating in his praise of all the players, no matter how badly they play. It is almost as if Joe Theisman is still in the booth.

There are solutions available if you are willing to pony up. The price has dropped considerably from just a few years back.
Bad move. He at least some objectionable takes and gave you some knowledge about the players and what to look out for. Gah..this just means that much more time Gruden will be running his mouth.
Or it means that they are bringing in another loser like Dennis Miller or Tony Cornholer to win over the non-football fans

They don't want Jaws anymore because Jaws was caught talking about football too much

Or, maybe Bert
I liked Miller as well and also liked Kornheiser. You get so much coach speak and x's and o's stuff on Sunday and all week long. I find it nice to listen to something completely different come Monday night.

Why not? One more idiot in the booth can't hurt.

Naa to get the IQ factor into the teens you need Michael Moore and Bill Maher in the both. Dave if you do not like that idea lay off politics.

The thread so nice we display it twice.
Sorry Fond Du Arrigo, these little bombs throwing episodes from the left or right have been popping up with increased regularity on the board. I just hate it when people call others whose ideas they do not likes stupid just to shut them up. As Madison said the answer to speech you do not like is more speech, you do not attempt to shot down or gag your political opposite. If you like that stuff you to a country with a tyrannical government

Yike I am teaching agian.

Let's see. Rush, Moore and Maher in one booth. That's a lot of idiots in one Booth.
