Fisher is more of an old school coach, focused more on toughness and brutality while the league has gradually eroded that type of style with their new rules put in place for "player safety" (which really means, "Rules to keep the number of lawsuits against us at a minimum").

I don't think Fisher is a bad coach, but he's a bit of a dinosaur in today's pacified version of the NFL, where you have to have at the very least a solid offense to win it all, and Fisher is not strong in offensive coaching.

Cannot figure out how that guy keeps a job.  Can take a **** team straight to 8-8 and stays there.

Like a lot team owners who are unhappy with their current stadium situation, Stan Kroenke had no interest in building a winning team in St. Louis. Revenue sharing ensured a handsome profit, regardless of what happened on the field. Georgia Frontiere did the same thing with the LA Rams circa 1990-94. She had no desire to risk shelling out the extra money needed to field a winning team until she got a sweetheart deal on a stadium.

It was obvious over the past several seasons in St. Louis that the Rams were just biding their time until they could get back to Los Angeles. Fisher was under no pressure to win for that reason. He'll be expected to win this year, though. There are PSLs, private luxury suites and season tickets that need to be sold.

Not exactly the coach I'd envision developing the overall number 1 pick:

No. 1 overall pick Jared Goffโ€™s NFL game debut was shorter than anticipated.

As expected, Goff replaced Rams starting quarterback Case Keenum after three series Saturday night and threw an interception on his second pass in the second quarter. He took a big hit on the interception and played one more series after that but was removed at halftime due to a sore left (non-throwing) shoulder.

Rams Coach Jeff Fisher said Goffโ€™s shoulder got stiff and the team decided not to let him play in the second half.

There really isn't anyone to compare Jeff Fisher to. He's a complete anomaly. In a purely suck like way. There is no rational explanation for how or why he should be coaching an NFL team today. None.

The closest  comparison to Jeff might be Marty Schottenheimer. They both coached 21 years. But Marty won far more games in the same 21 years as Jeff has been coaching. Marty went to the post season FAR more than Jeff. Marty got his ass handed to him in those playoff games much the same way Jeff has so that needs to be considered.

But my God. Jeff has 6 winning seasons in 21 years of coaching. And he just got an extension. There is no comparison to Jeff Fisher. What he's accomplishing is unprecedented. This level of suck by an individual for this length of time will never been seen again. I say individual because there's still the Vikings.

Jeff Fisher climbs the career coaching losses list

When the Rams lost to the 49ers last night, Jeff Fisher took a dubious place in NFL history.

Fisher is now all alone in third place in NFL history for most coaching losses, with 157. Prior to last night he was tied with Don Shula for third place, with 156.

That Fisher is tied with Shula for losses isnโ€™t a good sign, considering that Shula coached 490 games in his Hall of Fame career, while Fisher has coached just 327 games.

Fisherโ€™s career coaching record now sits at 169-157-1. The only coaches in NFL history with more losses are Tom Landry (250-162-6) and Dan Reeves (190-165-2). Fisher has a chance to pass both of them this season; if the Rams lose nine more games and finish 6-10 or worse, Fisher would have the all-time losses record to himself.

If Fisher does set that record this year, it would be hard for Rams owner Stan Kroenke to justify keeping him next year. Setting the all-time losses record could be Fisherโ€™s final accomplishment as an NFL head coach.
