I have NO issues with letting Wells go considering Wells broke his foot and is out 6 weeks and in TC was already having nagging leg problems. TT in all probabilty let Wells go at the right time.

But IMO, Saturday's been a disappointment. He's getting a lot of push backs which is leading to collapse of the pocket, Rodgers getting happy feet, and either hurried throws or Rodgers goes down. There's also been multiple times he and Rodgers aren't on the same page call-wise either. Today, Josh Sitton re-directed a call to essentially overule Saturday's call prior to the snap. While Graham Harrell needs to know better, nonetheless it was Saturday getting pushed back that led Harrell to trip last week fumble the ball and costed GB dearly.

I know he's got a 2 year deal here but IMO TT needs an upgrade in 2013. I wondered if part of the reason they didn't want to give Alex Green more carries in the 2nd half is because they know for a back like Green, running behind Saturday is pretty pointless.

Evan Dietrich-Smith was able to keep the offense chugging along (and hold his own against Suh). If Saturday starts next week and is allowed to play horribly again from start to finish, then McCarthy will have shown he doesn't know squat about offensive lines. EDS may not be a big guy (same size as Saturday, roughly), but he knows the offense and he's 10 years younger. Saturday is completely washed up, if he wasn't, he would be starting in Denver right now (Peyton would have found a way to get him if he really felt he was still a solid player).
I wonder too if EDS could do a better job. He's worked with AR longer but I understand MM's premise was that Saturday knew the no huddle so well and being a veteran he was the better option going into 2012 season. I supported that as it sounded like a good idea as well. It looked like a good signing at the time.

But Saturday's just not what the Packers expected even thinking/hoping they could get one good year out of him. And body language Im seeing with Rodgers towards Saturday doesn't look good at times either. Maybe it's just me but Rodgers almost looks annoyed with him.
If your line is anchored by an old, slow center that can't play (and even makes calls that are overruled by the guard next to him), you really don't have an offensive line. He's completely useless, might as well get the young guy out there and see what he can do. LT and center are the two most crucial positions on the line, if one of those two spots is filled with a guy that can't play, it doesn't matter how well the guys around him are playing.
Saturday has been fine in pass pro, giving up 5 pressures in 225 pass snaps. But if we're going to get the run game going, I feel like it will come through the interior, and that's where Saturday has really struggled.

Most of Benson's runs (30 attempts) and yardage (101 yards) came behind the right guard, behind Sitton. If EDS can come in and provide a little more solid run blocking next to Sitton, i think they could really have success. EDS struggled in that regard last year but has probably improved over the offseason.

Again, I like Saturday in pass protection but he hasn't shown much in the run game and if we're going to established it at all, I think it'll have to come up the middle.

This is interesting because according to an SI article earlier this year, Saturday made the calls in Indy but here Rodgers won't let him. Saturday said that has been a huge change for him, in addition to far different terminology. But I agree: the Sat part of his name is too often where he finds himself, and maybe he should sit. Here's a "holy crap" stat from Pro Football Focus that was given on a Cheesehead TV chat today when asked about Bulaga:

quote:
Bulaga- Not sure what is wrong with him. Last night I tweeted the Packers pressures allowed by linemen. Saturday has allowed 5, Sitton 6, Lang 7, Newhouse 8 and Bulaga 24. A lot of that was vs. the Seahawks, but we're seeing Bulaga play a lot more like he did when he was a rookie compared to his second year.

Center exchange not in Packers' plans

James Campen, who coaches the offensive line, said the 37-year-old Saturday would remain as the starter and that he had no intentions of giving Dietrich-Smith even a series or two.

"If you start moving centers in and out, you're asking for (problems)," Campen said this week. "You don't do that when you're in the rhythm of the game."

It would be far easier to rotate players at tackle or guard, according to Campen, because they aren't touching the ball every play and making the majority of the calls.

"Jeff's done a good job," McCarthy said at midweek. "I think he's going to continue to get better as we get better on offense. More importantly, he's a man's man . (But) I think it's a lot bigger adjustment than he probably anticipated, and maybe even so for us."continue
I hope one of the reporters asks Saturday how it feels to be a man's man and if it really is important to be a man's man.

Bob McGinn has lot's more past the click, including the defensive line plan if Raji can't play. Dom Capers talks about the particular way the Texans attack that makes it even tougher for Raji to play if his ankle is limiting him.
