From Wilde

quote:
He knows the Packers, who were reportedly $11 million under the salary cap entering camp, could decide that with their incredible depth at receiver, paying him isn’t necessary. Jordy Nelson (2014) and James Jones (2013) are signed beyond this season; 2011 second-round pick Randall Cobb is under contract through 2014; and up-and-coming ex-practice squad receivers Tori Gurley and Diondre Borel both show promise.

He also knows that he’s not the only Pro Bowl player in position to cash in. Outside linebacker Clay Matthews’ rookie contract is up after the 2013 season, and quarterback Aaron Rodgers is now grossly underpaid by franchise quarterback standards. The team will need to get an extension done with him well before his current deal expires after the 2014 season. Defensive lineman B.J. Raji and tight end Jermichael Finley are also up after the 2013 season, although it would seem that Jennings would be a greater priority.

Then again, maybe not.

“I’m not naïve to that. I understand that aspect of it and on that side of it, I lean heavily – because I understand the business, I’ve seen what has transpired over the years,” Jennings said. “I know when it comes down to money, there are going to be times where they’re going to take a player that they can work with, that they can possibly pour a little water on and have blossom and grow, versus a guy they’re going to have to pay a lot – especially when they have some important guys coming up. I’m not naïve to that at all, I definitely recognize that. That’s why it’s going to be what it’s going to be.

Definitely sounds like his wife hates it in GB. I expect he'll sign with either Philly or New England. Mark it down.

My inside sources are telling me that Jennings likes playing with Rodgers and is a great receiver, however he is worried there won't be enough money. Patty and I hope that he does leave and makes TT look foolish for taking a career #4 WR over Chad Jackson, as well as Jerel Worthy instead of trading down.

Wilde is very subtle in the way he writes. First of all he wrote that they were in Africa. Secondly, the 19th paragraph started with a "V". Enough said.
quote:

“What I told my agent is, ‘I don’t want to hear about anything unless we’re getting serious. Don’t call me about every little detail. I don’t want to hear about it,’” Jennings said. “My focus is making sure that I’m prepared to practice every day, to play if we have a game. That’s the bottom line. At the end of the day, I do not want to be a distraction. He knows as well as the Packers know, ‘Look guys, if you don’t get it done before (the end of) training camp, I’m not being a distraction to this team.’ I will not do that. I will not – will not – be a distraction. I will not be selfish. There is a point when you have to be a little selfish in terms of negotiations, but we’re trying to focus on a goal here as a team. You’ve got to let your ego diminish. If we don’t get it done, I’m focusing on football, and it is what it is.”

Reading between the lines, he's as good as gone. Or maybe he said
I am SHOCKED!!!!!

A player in his last year of a contract hinting that he knows there may not be enough money so he is ready to explore new pastures.

If Uncle Ted is wise he would sign whomever for the right money in the next 2 months and send the message the bank is overdrawn to the unsigned players. The players that are signed relax and play better while the unsigned players get real hungry and play for the next check.

Pack Could Always Play Tag With Jennings

Jason Wilde wrote an interesting story on Greg Jennings’ contract situation. The Pro Bowl receiver is eligible for free agency at the end of the season, and while there have been some talks between the team and agent Eugene Parker, nothing appears imminent.

Wilde covered a lot of ground in his story, but he left out one scenario. If the Packers can’t sign Jennings to an extension between now and the Super Bowl, they could always place the franchise tag on him. In fact, that might make the most sense. It would keep him around for another season, and it wouldn’t force the organization to commit multiple years and perhaps as much as $25 million in bonus money to a player who turns 29 in a few months. It would also give GM Ted Thompson more time to find out if Jordy Nelson can be a true No. 1 and if Randall Cobb is as good a receiver as he is a returner.

This is really simple. Make him a player/coach, give him a $1 mill player salary (counts against cap), and a $5 mill coaching salary (or whatever it will take)(doesn't count against cap).

In fact, our players are so smart, we can do that with almost everyone we want to keep.
He's the number 1 WR on a team with the best QB in football with a playcalling genius that throws first and answers questions later as Head Coach.

If he decides to leave it's not the money. He or his family didn't want to be here.

TT will make him an offer conducive to the team that recognizes his importance to the offense. He will be offered more $$$ elsewhere. We'll see what he chooses.
