How much say does Reid have in this relationship? Alex Smith, Dunta Robinson? Seems like more of the same in KC. I'm all for having clown boys out there blowing their proverbial wad every offseason. Christ, strip down and rebuild.

KC was looked at as a potential playoff team going into last season so my suspicion is there is a belief that there is some core talent there. I don't follow them so I'm not sure why they were as bad as they were last year.

I also think Reid wouldn't have gone there if they were planning on a complete rebuild. I also think he wouldn't have taken the job if there was a dearth of talent.

I am interested to see how Reid fares out there. The AFC West is a crappy division so the playoffs are a possibility. Mark it down!

Since Reid hired Dorsey, I'm guessing Reid has way too much say in this relationship.
I think the Alex Smith move needed to be made because they had a revolving door at the QB position, and what Smith will give them is stability and leadership and consistency. He also won't turn the ball over like crazy. Cassell and Quinn combined had 8 TDs and 20 INTs

Not sure about the Dunta Robinson signing though. He's an above average corner that's never lived up to the hype. Plus he's got a major attitude. We'll see I guess.

Bowe and Albert are decent players so that was a pretty good idea to lock those guys up.

KC strikes me as a team that with better leadership could make a huge leap in a year or two. They have talent on that team. Charles had 1,500 rushing yards last season. Bowe is a legit receiver. Tambi Hali and Derrick Johnson are pretty damn good. Eric Berry is one of the better young safeties in the league.

Dorsey and Reid will do wonders for that team. Would not surprise me at all to see KC win up to 8 games this year.
When you have Charles at RB you don't need to be throwing the ball all over the yard. But I agree Boris- if they choose to throw a lot more than running it then he will get lit up like an Xmas tree.
Funny thing is I've read Dorsey was the de facto guy the Packers sent when they wanted to evaluate a player's character and then the Chiefs go and sign Bowe to a huge money extension. That speaks volumes as to who has final say over the roster. I know Dorsey and Reid are close but this thing ends up looking like Dorsey just went for a payday. Can't blame him, though. Get what you can while you can.
It's the same setup as Schneider and Carroll in Seattle. Dorsey will run the personnel department and Reid will have final say. That's how it was in Philly for the last 7 or 8 years. We see how that turned out.
Schneider & Carroll | Dorsey & Reid

I don't get it....

Did they not learn anything from Wolf & TT and now Reggie McKenzie in Oakland?

Maybe it's just my biased view due to being a Packer fan, but there's no way I leave the Packers Org for a "Defacto" GM job.

Maybe they just wanted to get paid.
On paper, you wouldn't think Dorsey would make the jump to KC. But perhaps his wife had a big enough influence on him to make the move. I believe she was either a lawyer or partner in a law firm based out of Kansas City. That may have had some bearing on the situation. A combination of making the wife happy, plus getting a better job title was enough to tilt his decision to try to help resurrect KC.

If they are able to resurrect that franchise, it's actually got a pretty good fanbase so he's got a chance to be part of something special if they can make it happen.

In the case of Schneider, McGinn wrote a piece talking about how Schneider would do all this leg work and bring deals to TT, who just took a pass. So Schneider wanted a chance to do it himself, follow his instincts and relieve some of the frustration.
( see Lynch,Marshawn)
IF he has plans to return to GB, the front office will want him to have some seasoning as a full GM and he gets that in Seattle. I don't think he's coming back...

As for Dorsey, I've read that his wife is from KC and has a business there, so there were additional reasons for him taking that position. He also knew Reid from his time in GB and via Ron Wolf. And again, if Dorsey had any plans to ascend to GM in GB, he has to get some seasoning in another franchise as a GM before returning to Titletown (when TT goes back to scouting)

Its different when you are the one calling the shots and both of these guys need to get that experience

As for their actual tactics/ strategies - time will tell and there is more than one way to skin a chicken
