That was a dozen years or so ago. He was just promoted last May. I keep hearing it's a young man's game (even in the personnel department but apparently not in the coaches). I wouldn't say his last shot, but if I'm sure spending a season watching Reggie in Oakland do what he is allowed to do wouldn't make him want to yearn to be second fiddle forever.
I don't understand why teams and coaches continue to think it's a good idea to have a the HC also assume GM responsibilities? How often has that actually worked in the last 15 years? Bill Belichick? Ego and control aside, it doesn't make sense for coaches either. When it fails, as it did in Andy Reid's situation in Philly, the coach looks really bad.
He's filled in with multiple roles and yes, cap guy was one of them. But's that hardly all his resume consists of. He was the GM of the Titans and had control over player personnel and like TT, largely believed in draft and development however Bud Adams (owner) then decided Titans needed to win now and had Reinfeldt more active in FA then he wanted to be.

In fact, one rumor going around is that the reason for his firing is that he was unable to get Peyton Manning. Reinfeldt wanted to draft/develop a QB.
