Sounds like your typical Hollywood rehab for "exhaustion".  Until more info comes out on exactly what he is getting treatment for, my take is that it's a PR stunt to get some sympathy for a completely disastrous year in which he showed he is completely incapable of being an NFL player, let alone a leader of an NFL team.

We'll see how this unfolds but I'm very curious to see what problem he is getting treatment.

Paul Manziel also expressed concern about a temper that made the father reluctant to engage in one of the ultimate father-son activities.

“I don’t enjoy playing golf with him because I don’t want to see that temper,” Paul Manziel told Wright Thompson at the time. “I honestly do not. I cringe when he wants to play golf. . . . I don’t know where the anger comes from. I don’t think he knows. If it comes from his drinking, or if he’s mad at himself for not being a better person when he fails, when he fails God and his mom and me. If it makes him angry that he’s got demons in him. You can only speculate because you can’t go in there.”

Mess.

Yeah, sounds like a rational family environment.  Whatever could be the issue?

In a weird way, I actually want Manziel to succeed.  I want those poor Browns fans to finally have something to hang their hats on.  I want Manziel to show that the road win he had vs. eventual college football National Champion Alabama was not a fluke.

I really truly wish that whatever this "rehab" is would wake Manziel up, but it's hard to believe it will.  I suspect it's all a big show.  I hope it's not, but unfortunately, I doubt that deep down he really believes he needs to be fixed.  You never know, maybe this is for real, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Former QB coach Tom Rossley recognized Manziel's talent

Tom Rossley pulled the state of Texas card on Johnny Manziel's parents.

"I kept telling mom and dad, 'He's a legend in Texas. You don't want to let him leave Texas and be a legend somewhere else,'" Rossley said.

Rossley had some catching up to do, though. Manziel had already orally committed to Oregon the June before his senior year.

Rossley, who recruited San Antonio and Central Texas during his four years as A&M's senior assistant/quarterbacks coach under head coach Mike Sherman, got Manziel's highlight tape from his junior season and visited him in the spring of his junior year.

"I went there to watch him throw, and he was athletic, had a quick release," said Rossley, who coached Brett Favre, Warren Moon and Matt Hasselbeck. "He could plant his foot, didn't have to scramble and was accurate, which is something I don't think he gets enough credit for. I told [Sherman] afterward we had to get him."

Rossley believed the Aggies still had an opportunity to make Manziel change his mind. He felt convinced that the dual-threat quarterback jumped at Oregon coach Chip Kelly's offer because Texas schools hadn't shown much interest in him.

Rossley had one problem: Manziel's loyalty.

"It was hard for him because he is such a high integrity guy," Rossley said. "It was difficult for him to decommit."

Rossley wasn't about to give up on the player he described as "the best quarterback I ever recruited." The Aggies offered Manziel a scholarship just before the start of his senior season.

He's been guilt tripped into thinking every mistake he's failing God, and then you wonder where he gets this weird and crazy anger and beats himself up whenever he makes a mistake.

YOU SPILLED THAT WATER JOHNNY!  YOU HAVE FAILED GOD!

I really thought Gruden would be a pretty good broadcaster/commentator but he is just awful, really wish he's get back into coaching.

Wait until he gets traded to GB and the fans take care of his dog.

How Mike Sherman helped Texas A&M land Johnny Manziel

“I wanted to meet him in person before I offered him,” Sherman said. “Stanford was on him and Oregon offered before we did. But I was able to get him to change. We sat down and visited with Johnny and his family. He has a wonderful mom and dad. We had a good talk.

“We thought this would be a great fit for him and a great fit for A&M. Leaving the state and going all the way to Oregon … he didn’t need to do that. He could play right here in the state of Texas, his family could watch him play every weekend and he could continue the legend of Johnny Football.”
