Hunter Morris could be in Milwaukee soon

When the Brewers drafted Morris out of Auburn, they were hoping he'd be that college power bat that could develop into an everyday player in the future. While there are vastly differing opinions about Morris, many in the scouting industry believe Milwaukee was right. The case is even better after a fantastic second full year of pro ball when Morris topped the organization in hits, homers, RBIs and slugging percentage while finishing second in batting average. Added up, that gave Morris the Double-A Southern League MVP Award. His improved plate discipline in 2012 allowed him to find better pitches to drive, both for two-base hits and for home runs. Some really feel he has a chance to hit at the highest level. He's a below-average runner, but should be just fine defensively at first base.

A .303 hitter in 2012 with 40 doubles, 28 HR and 113 RBI, Hunter had a .357 OBP and a .563 SLG. Hunter was the 2012 Milwaukee Brewer Minor League Player of the Year, and the 2012 Topps Southern League Player of the Year. He also won the Rawlings Gold Glove Award at first base, the only minor league first baseman to win the award.

Given the uncertainty of Gamel (will he or won't he ever make the leap) and Hart's checkered injury history it would be good to have a young up and comer in the minors that could eventually make the step in a year or two to fill that position.

What's encouraging about Morris is that he's not a one trick pony hitter. He hits for power and average and gets on base pretty consistently. He also appears to be a pretty solid defensive player.
