Josh Gordon, the Cleveland Browns receiver who led the NFL in receiving yards last year, is facing a season-long suspension in 2014 for another failed drug test, ESPN reports.
Pump the brakes on all that Johnny Manziel celebrating, Cleveland. This is heartbreaking news for a franchise that can’t catch a break. Gordon 23, caught 87 passes for 1,646 yards and nine TDs last season, and figured to be Manziel’s top target next season. Those numbers were compiled despite missing two games for violating the league’s drug policy.
Two sources told “Outside the Lines” Friday that Gordon’s latest violation is the result of marijuana being found during a drug test. One source said that Gordon received a letter in early winter from a league physician stating he had failed a test. A second letter, informing Gordon that he faced a 16-game suspension but had the right to appeal, was sent in late April.
Gordon had drug-testing problems in college as well. He was dismissed from the Baylor Bears after being suspended twice for marijuana use. He transferred to Utah but didn’t play there after failing another drug test.
What a brutal Friday night present for Browns fans. I actually was poised to put Cleveland in the playoffs next season, but no Gordon for half a season or more is going to be too much to overcome.

Gordon spent last season out of football after Baylor dismissed him from the team in August 2011. Gordon was suspended at Baylor for a failed marijuana test, he told the Chronicle.
"It was against school policy, of course, and I was (suspended) in the summer," Gordon said. "I've definitely put that part of my life behind me. I don't plan to ever go back there. It was a difficult time, but I learned from it, and I've moved on."
Put the weed aside, make a ton of money with your obvious talent, build a legacy, maybe win a ring or two, retire...then do whatever the hell you want.

Whatever your views of the Mary Jane if it's a banned substance it's a banned substance by the NFL. Why would this guy put his career and team in jeopardy by being totally selfish?
It never ceases to amaze me how stupid some of these pro athletes are. All you have to do is keep your nose clean for 5-10 years and you can make millions and retire. Way to go Josh!
I'm rather enjoying that a guy that beats a woman and drags her through a casino will get punished by the NFL far less than a guys smoking weed.

What a dumb-ass. I just read about the drug-testing policy, and for recreational drugs players are tested once during the preseason (so all you have to do is not smoke weed for a few weeks until your test and then you can go right back to smoking weed all day every day). But if you fail that test, you're then subject to testing anytime, anywhere.
So Gordon is an idiot for smoking weed during the preseason last year, and a bigger idiot for not stopping altogether.

Woman-beating isn't a "banned substance" by the NFL.
