It would be easy to pick this story as this “Bucks have this secret weapon that will be unleashed in the second half” fantasy, but it can’t be real... can it?
Wood was just recalled after Sunday’s 40-20 game with Oshkosh. He averaged 33.7 points, 15.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.3 blocks in 3 wins since he was sent to Oshkosh this last week. Thst 40-20 game was the first ever. In 19 starts with the Herd, Wood has averaged 28.4 points, 13.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 2.2 blocks and 1.1 steals per game. He’s appeared in just six mop-up games with the Bucks this season averaging 4.2 points and 2.7 rebounds.
So does it translate? Are the Bucks getting ready to deal Maker knowing Wood is waiting in the wings? Can a guy, undrafted at age 20 and picked up by Philly in ‘15, washed out in Charlotte in ‘16, wasn’t even on a roster in ‘17, suddenly find himself in the ‘18 summer league where the Bucks snatched him up after being on the all-summer league team? He’s 6’10”, a skinny 215, but can play all over the floor with his 7’3” wingspan and developed 3 point range. He says he patterns his game after Giannis... a strange thing considering Giannis was still a relative unknown then.
This from 2016: https://ftw.usatoday.com/2016/...an-wood-76ers-future
And a good story from the guys at Behind the Buck Pass this year: https://behindthebuckpass.com/...ding-road-milwaukee/
Wouldn’t it be amazing if Giannis’ future partner was this kid, left and forgotten?
