Current TV is about to be Al Jazeera America, so he might have been out of a job anyway. No way of knowing.

His new show allegedly will be politics-free, but not restricted just to sports. Most likely a good idea if he wants to last longer than two years.

If he blows it and burns this bridge (a second time) his TV career is probably over.

I don't remember if he got canned or he simply quit and moved on to bigger and better pastures, allegedly.

He was one of the top ESPN guys during his stint but he got way too political and mouthy for his own good.  If nothing else, his return should create some interesting moments for the network and maybe that's what they are hoping for (not sure)

Fired by ESPN

Howard Katz, an Executive Vice President at ESPN, recalls that the time Olbermann spent in Bristol was among his most miserable days.
"Keith is as talented as anybody I’ve ever worked with. But he was a terribly unhappy person while he was up in Bristol. First of all, he was single. He didn’t drive. What kind of social life can you possibly have? He was not a happy camper up there, and it showed. People just didn’t want to work with him anymore; he was tearing the newsroom apart. Keith had to fight management on every single point. So [in 1997] I finally came to the conclusion that despite his brilliance and talent, we would be better off without Keith. I didn’t fire Keith; I just chose not to renew his contract. Keith did not respond wellβ€”although I’m sure it didn’t come as a surprise."

Fired by Fox Sports

Olbermann worked as a sports anchor for Fox Sports Net from 1998 to 2001 and was fired after reporting that Murdoch was planning to sell the Los Angeles Dodgers.
