NFL MVP. Super Bowl Champion.

Icon. Legend. The Snake.

Sea of Hands.

The Ghost to the Post.

The Holy Roller.

This really sucks. No better football than the 1970s Raiders versus the Steelers, the Dolphins, the Chiefs. And no more resourceful player than the Snake.

R.I.P.

I saw the original reporting and retraction. Waited until official confirmation to post on the board. Statements from his ex-wife, grandson, head of his charitable foundation and finally the U of Alabama were enough for me.

Stabler completed only 13 passes vs the Packers back in 1976, but 3 of them were TDs

Probably pretty typical of opposing QB's back then

I used to love watching the Raiders back when I was a kid in the 70's and my favorite player on that team was Stabler.  RIP Snake

have to say, I loved those Raiders as a wee youngin' back then.  Stabler, Casper, Van
Eeghen, Biletnikoff, Branch, Guy, Davis, Matuszak, Hendricks, Sistrunk,
Tatum...   those were the days.

RIP Kenny - you entertained me well

In the same boat...Loved watching the 70's Raiders teams after a Packer game especially with Curt Gowdy & then in the 80's the Raiders & Coryell Chargers. Fun times.

RIP Snake

Curt Gowdy and Don Meredith doing games together. That was fun. Guys like Villipiano, Monte Johnson, Dan Conners loved hanging with Kenny because he partied like a linebacker.

Snake completed a 50 yard TD pass in 1976 late in the 4th against Chicago in Chicago that he never remembered throwing after he got knocked senseless a couple drives earlier. Bob Thomas doinked a 30 yard FG off the upright as time expired and Oakland won. Different game.

RIP Snake.

He did that at Alabama. Bear Bryant kicked Snake off the team as a senior for partying. Bear brought him him back and Snake rewarded him with his 50 yard scamper through slop to beat Auburn 7-3.

Ken hated blowouts. He got bored. But if **** got down to brass tacks and things needed to get done he was as good as there ever was. His teams knew it.

The greatest defenses ever (Steelers between 1972 and 1976) will tell you how great Ken Stabler was. Chuck Knoll hated Stabler. And loved him.

Just watched the Sea of Hands game again this morning on NFL Network. He was something. I also loved watching the Raiders back in the day. What teams. RIP Snake.

Remember Ted Hendricks? In his one year in GB he had one of his best seasons: five interceptions, seven blocked kicks (3 field goals, 3 punts and 1 extra point) and a safety, two sacks, 75 tackles, and two knocked down passes while again earning consensus All-Pro honors for the second time. We traded him to OAK for two 1st Round picks. 2 years later OAK and the Snake won SB XI.

Hendricks won 2 more SBs with OAK after that.
