It was a tough decision in terms of the heat he knew he'd take from certain quarters of the fan base, but as a purely football decision it was a no-brainer.

A theme of most of the TT articles from the national media is that the SB appearance somehow vindicates his decision to go with AR, but that occurred years ago when it was evident that AR could play at a very high level.

The Packers were getting bashed locally at the time, because Favre wanted to return, and the court of public opinion was loud in his favor.

I'm not sure I agree totally with this or what he seems to imply.

I agree there were many who wanted bert back, I never thought though that it was a majority of the fans. Not even close.

I think the media just made it look and sound that way.

Also, all anyone needs to know about bert is covered at the very start of the story where King quotes the text he got from bert. Bert wanted the media to fight his battle and a good many of them did so.
Postscript: When Thompson traded Favre to the Jets, Green Bay ended up getting a third-round pick in return, the 83rd pick in the 2009 draft. The Packers, on draft day 2009, had already taken B.J. Raji in the first round, and now, late in the round, were calling around, trying hard to find a pick to take one more player in round one. They began talking to New England, sitting at 26, and could give second- and third-round picks, the 41st and 73rd overall, but that wasn't quite enough. They needed to sweeten the pot with one more good pick. So Thompson threw in the 83rd pick ... the pick acquired from the Jets for Favre.

"There has been a trade, and with the 26th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft,'' Commissioner Roger Goodell said moments later in New York, "the Green Bay Packers have selected Clay Matthews, linebacker, USC.''

We are damn lucky to have a guy like TT running this ship.
Think fans of Houston, Tennessee, Buffalo, The 49'ers, Carolina etc. wouldn't kill to have a GM like TT?

I'm so sick of these so called "Packer fans" who are still pining for Favre.

I did notice very few Favre jerseys when I went to Lambeau this year.

We have one more little thing to take care of. Beating the mighty Pittsburgh Steelers. It won't be easy but I know we can do it and not if but when we do it, just watch the flood of Packer "fans" come pouring onto the bandwagon.

Happy Friday morning!

Man, I work with a few of these clowns. One of them told me just yesterday that he still thought keeping Favre was the right choice. He claims to be a life long Packer fan but followed Favre to NY and Minnyhaha. He is rooting for the Steelers in the SB because he's "still a Viking fan for the season" and then plans to pull for the Packers again next year.

You can't make this stuff up. Dude never was a Packer fan, isn't one now and will never be in the future.

I almost punched him.
back in the day when Tampa had the dreamsicle gay pirate uniforms, several times a year a guy would come to games at Lambeau in the section next to mine in a full out Tampa Bay jacket yet we would never be playing Tampa. Every time as he passed by my section I would tell him he was in the wrong stadium and he'd actually get mad... which of course made me do it all the more. Never understand those kind of people.

Brings tears to my eyes.

Agreed. They were and still are a minority, but an extremely loud and squealing minority. Do we need to dig out that photo of tens of people showing up to defend the honor of Brent? Those people have either quietly seen the light and let go of their hero or they're wondering what team to root for next year.

"Tell Ted to release me."

Four words that define a guy's entire psyche.

IOW, '**** YOU I'M OUT HERE!'
All it will take for those remaining Favre-should-still-be-in-Green-Bay "fans" to slink back under their rocks is... eh, who knows and who cares? Some people hang onto their heroes long after he or she is proven to be a pimple of a person, and nothing will ever change their little minds. They are glued to the past and not worth my time today.

Celebrate the present!

I used to be one of those rubes who wouldn't hesitate for a second to tell you or anybody else (especially Viking fans) that Packer fans were, on average, both smarter and friendlier than fans of most other teams (especially the Vikings).

S**t like this (and frankly, a lot of s**t that's said here) is why I stopped doing that.

Every single idiot who signed that sorry crap is no better than the stupidest Viking/Bear fan.
True, but that whole Great Monkey Poop Fight of 08 also served as a nice vetting process for those claiming to be GBP fans. Many of the morons on that link and those who would agree with them are no longer claiming to be part of our fan base. Looking back now, it was a healthy thing to thin the herd. If GB wins Sunday, we'll see another onrush of bandwagon clods, so it comes and goes.
I always thought that idea would be great for the introduction of opposing teams at home games. Especially when Frett and the Vikings came to town. Don't boo or yell obcenities. Just be silent, enough to hear crickets. Stone cold in my opinion.

Vs. one of our worst rivals in HS, at BB games the home crowd would lift a newspaper up and pretend to read while the other team was being introduced. Thought that was funny.
Yeah right, fire TT now and he would have a new gig within an hour...for any one of the 31 teams left.

My sister in law is one of those bozo's. Doesn't know **** about football but BF is a god...think it is some sexual fantasy she's living out more than anything else.

Makes me want to puke everytime I hear Clayton, Cowturd, Maller and the rest of these dickheads(that blasted TT for the BF trade)on the air today talking like they knew it was the best thing to do all along.

Screw them all!
