Eli. Overrated.

That I don't really agree with. I think he deserves the praise he gets. He might not be the best QB in the NFL, but I really do think he's in the elite club now.

His numbers for the year:

183-293, 2,296 yards. 12 TD passes, 8 INT. Rating of 89.0

That's elite?

2 years ago, I would have agree with you LambeauSouth, but the last year and a half, I think he's moved into the elite club of 6 or 7 top QBs.

I respectfully disagree. He wasn't in the top 10 in QB rating last year, his best season when he had a 92.5 rating.

This year, he's again not in the top 10 rating in the NFL. He throws for a lot of yards, but that doesn't make one elite.

Aaron Rodgers is elite
His brother is elite
Tom Brady and Drew Brees are elite.

Eli Manning is not elite.
I'm not looking at half season awards, Orlando. I'm looking at his numbers over the course of the entire season.

Eli has improved. He's a good quarterback. But he has too many games where he's non existent to be considered elite in my opinion. Everybody talks about how great he is in the 4th quarter. If he played better in the first three quarters, his team wouldn't need to come back so often.

I guess I just think that people throw the word "elite" around too easily, and a guy when compared to the other passers in the league that can't crack the top 10 in rating shouldn't be considered elite.

That's a fair question, OW. And I'm not trying to argue with ya Wink

I guess my answer would echo that of Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart: I can't use words to describe what an elite quarterback is, but I know it when I see it.

It's more than throwing for a lot of yards. A lot of it is decision making, and protecting the ball. The great ones don't turn the ball over a lot. He's improved, but he still turns it over too much.

QB rating isn't perfect, but it's the best metric to compare quarterbacks we've got, and that says he's good, not great.
