Remember when the "frozen tundra" was considered almost the ultimate home field advantage?

I have not heard our coaches talking about it, and I think it's a mistake.  I hope I'm wrong!

example:

Yet in last year's wild card loss to San Francisco -- temps at minus-10 wind chill, wind at 10 MPH -- Green Bay's offense managed only 281 total yards on 61 plays. A go-ahead final drive fell short.

McCarthy is 2-3 at home in the playoffs (when cold weather really becomes a factor) and 4-2 on the road. Before beating a pathetic Vikings squad in '12 his last home playoff win was the '07 snow globe bowl vs. Seattle.

McCarthy has some work to do to get his team to play better at home in the post season. Rogers' too, really, since he only has one playoff win since he's been the starter.

I thought the mid '90s Packers in particular were a team built for Lambeau and for dealing with sloppy/less than perfect conditions.   They had good drive blocking O-linemen, and power backs like Bennett and Levens running behind them.  Defensively, Fritz Shurmur believed in putting four big D-Linemen in there to be strong at the point of attack.

I understand why the Pack is built differently nowadays with the rule changes making passing the football and spreading the field much easier than it used to be.  They do have Lacy who is definitely a guy that gives the Pack an advantage in less than perfect conditions.  Also Rodgers seems to be impervious to bad weather as well.  The offensive and defensive lines seem to be a bit questionable as to how well they can compete in inclement weather.  They seem to be built a bit differently than the mid '90s teams on both lines as they are more finesse whereas the '90s best teams had pure strength and power on both sides of the line of scrimmage.

This is my exact thinking.  You need to be able to pound the ball to win in the cold in general, along with stopping the run.

2011 was frustrating, best offense that never made mistakes, but that playoff game, but our offense just made mistake after mistake that were completely out of character.

Right now we are not in the playoffs, and of course we need to continue the mindset that all that matters is the next game. We have to win ours and see how things play out, there's no other choice and it's absolutely the correct approach.

I think this defense can be better than 2011's if core players keep making plays.  I also think we are built much better for playing in the cold or sloppy field than we have been with Lacy and Starks (and Harris for that matter)... and ARodg being in sync with our group for a full season.

I still think MM3 likes to keep certain things in the fold until later in the season so there is no tape for others to game-plan from when it counts.  It's frustrating as fans, but it seems pretty consistent (please please get rid of the offset I!)  I like that concept and it has a ton of value when you are winning.  Just don't overthink yourself Mike!

To make the cold be effective, we just have to keep winning at home with verve.  It starts again this weekend.
