Has had a terrific camp thus far. Played very well last season. IIRC his contract ends this season? I would assume extending him wouldn't cost a lot. But another season like last year, price would go up. If you're TT, would you extend him now?

I would sign this guy in a heart beat. A few years back his confidence was not the best.  Everyone was busting on him.  He keeps his mouth shut, he has confidence, and he is producing on the field. He is a winner

Jones is coming off a 3 year 9.4 million dollar contract and is making 3.15 million this year with his roster bonus.

For some fun here's all the WR contracts

I couldn't tell where to slot Jones in there.  I'd bet his agent would want to work off Anquon Boldin's (<--click for stats) deal (3 years for $25 million).

The 2014 free agent WR class is pretty shallow.  As of now it looks like Jones, Hakeem Nicks, maybe Golden Tate and not much else.

I don't know what the right value is for James Jones .  I wonder what the Packers put it at.  4 years at $6 million per?   I don't know if they'll be willing to go as high as other teams.

More importantly where does James Jones set his value at?  I wouldn't blame the guy at all for wanting as much as he could get.  This is most likely his last opportunity in life to receive a large, guaranteed sum of money.  In comparison to his peers he's outperformed a lot of guys making a lot more money than him.

If he gets anywhere around 10 TDs he should get a real nice paycheck.  I think there's going to be some teams desperate for WRs.  Carolina and San Diego to name two.

I don't think they can really afford to lose him after the season.  The young guys are playing well right now, but it's another level of play when it gets to the regular season. Also, James Jones hasn't missed a game since 2008.  As AJ Hawk recently said, "they seem to value guys who can stay on the field around here".

There's also a lot more than just Jones at play, too.  Jordy's leg injuries are becoming a concern.

That is where I would put him based upon that list.  I guess the compromise position is $7 million per.  Jordy then gets comparable or more since he is probably #2 if he is healthy.

Yep I think that's a fair deal. With the FA pool for WR's looking that thin, if he is indeed productive I could see him being in high demand but hopefully GB just locks him up sooner then later.  He and Rodgers seem to have pretty good trust/chemistry in each other.

I was busting on him.  And if I remember correctly, which I'm sure I don't, he was expecting top WR money in free agency. As frustrating as his drops were, I was glad to see him back with the Packers with a reasonable contract.

Since then, Jones has done a complete turnaround.  In 2010, AR could drop a pass right into his hands and he'd somehow figure out a way to drop it.  Last year, he made some of the craziest catches that I've ever seen.  Somehow, he figured it out.

Like you said, he kept his mouth shut and he produces.....I hope he retires a Packer...and not the way Longwell just did.

He's never had a problem making those crazy catches.  It was those ones that were dropped in his bucket that he sometimes pooped out - some of those were in crunch time but physically easy makes.  That's what he fixed.

BDP is spot on with the point about 2010. When Jones dropped the sure TD against the Eagles with 30 seconds left in the first half in the playoffs, then GB turned it over their opening drive of the 3rd I spent the rest of the game swearing Jones off. Then he did the same thing in the SB in the 3rd with GB needing something good to happen.

He's made a complete 180 ever since. Good hands, good route runner, solid locker room guy.

I do think it's going to come down to Jones or Jordy though. I don't see GB paying both. I don't see how you can look past the fact Jones has been on the field. And you have to think TT locks up Cobb well before 2015. What if Finley simply goes off this year? Where's that money coming from? Nothing I've seen in camp this year tells me Finley's replacement is on the roster.

Raji, Newhouse, MD Jennings, Shields, EDS, Mulligan, Lattimore, Starks, CJ Wilson... potentially Johnny Jolly. Going to be plenty of decisions that will need to be made after Lombardi number 5.

I'd lock up Jones ASAP.

Think he has been talking to Finley - who since the middle of last year has at least kept his mouth shut?  I did see Finley on a show last year and he made the statement that (at the time) everything he said was taken wrong and creates problems (my paraphrse).  He said that with his head down, and only gave very short answers to questions otherwise.  I came away convinced that he didn't realize the unintended consequences of what he said.  Anyway, enough about Finley.

Back to Jones, I would sign him in a heart beat too.  As bd said, he has figured it out, he is healthy, and is good with the media.  At the time GB re-signed him they were talking like he would be a #1 WR some day.  I didn't believe it then, but I would now.

I'm a big Jones guy but I personally don't view him as a number one. I also don't think TT views WR as a position you overpay for. I would love to keep him and I hope they can but I bet some team will offer more than the Pack will when that day comes.

DH13, that's what I remember, too.  He would make some crazy good cathes where the ball was thrown low and behind him, and the next play drop one that him him in the numbers.  I think that was due to lack of concentration.  But, as others have said, that seems to be a non issue these days.
