This kind of cheapens the practice of retiring with a specific team and it's already kind of silly to begin with.  If you're a fan favorite who was let go because of a business decision -go for it- ,but who really cares if a kicker does it?

I don't think this was the Packers looking for Longwell to do it.  More like Longwell asked and they didn't want to tell him no (or they took some measure of happiness at rubbing the Vikes face in it).

The only thing remotely entertaining that can come out of this is if someone asks Jennings if he could ever see himself doing the same and then Jennings can't help himself and comments negatively on the Packers again.

Yes it was always "the holders fault" when he missed a kick if I recall correctly. He and Bert should just retire as viqueens.

Unless something changes quickly in camp and another kicker becomes available. I don't want to see GB even attempt a FG longer than 50 yards this year... ever!

Over his career Crosby has connected on 42% of his attempts over 50 yards and that number is getting worse. I'm not trusting Tavecchio's leg on a 53 yarder in December either.

Longwell connected on 63% of FG's over 50 yards during his time in GB. Which is impressive considering Crosby connected on 63% of every FG he attempted last year.

Kicker or not, Longwell holds Packer records:

1) He set a team record by leading the club in scoring in nine consecutive seasons (1997-2005), besting the previous mark of seven by Don Hutson (1939-45).

2) Longwell also holds franchise records for field goals (226), field-goal percentage (81.6, 226/277), seasons leading the team in field goals (nine), extra points (376), 100-point seasons (eight) and consecutive games scoring (144).

Makes sense to me.

Not the only reason, but I think they are close to the truth. Watch how many articles will come out talking about how Longwell thinks Faver can return to GB

I counted 4 different sites already and its early in the day. Given the stakes involved, it would not surprise me if GB had reached out to Longwell and made him an "offer"

Murphy and others want it real bad, and if you pay attention to the machinations of the PR team , you'll see just how far they are willing to go in polishing the Turd for his return to Titletown

They were in full blow-job mode until Jennings opened his yap about "talking to Brett" before joining the vikes. Then the Packers media took a little break to let that settle down  and now are back at it again. They likely have an entire slew of articles and testimonials planned for sequential release, all to capitalize on the cash cow. JSO doesn't care if he returns, but will be only too happy to generate ratings off it either way

The Packers front office are hoping they can overwhelm our resistance with copious amounts of fluff and support from Longwell and others

Longwells' actual retirement is a footnote of what gets reported- the bulk of those articles/interviews are about douchey-douche...and that offers some insight into how this whole thing works

According to the JSO blog:

  • On the life his Applebee's comment took on: Well, obviously I regret the way it came out, no doubt. It was kind of a funny thing that people who knew us, Sarah and I would literally eat at Applebee’s five to seven times a week. It was our favorite place, it wasn’t supposed to be a negative comment. The joke was maybe we’ll have to venture out, there’s more options and see what else is out there. It was kind of a joke that there was a writer at the time here, a columnist, that kind of took it in a different slant, and then the snowball happened, so obviously I regretted saying it when that happened."

+1 Plenty of fine eating establishments in and aroud the GB area including the entire Fox River Valley area.

I once had dinner at a GB place that was newer in GB and the prime rib and steak was litearally out of this world, newer kinda building kinda on the outskirts. Plenty of players in attendance, but not bothered by the clientele. Cant remember the name, but I know the Miller Beer distributor for that area and he treated us that evening. It was a great restaurant. Good times.
