Just keeping the bench warm for the real guy

Last edited by "We"-Ka-Bong

I think all the comments above are correct, but this also has the benefit of providing some continuity for the mostly young players they have and it also sticks it to Counsell, who was just waiting until after the Brewers hired a manager to hire Murphy as his bench coach. It's possible the Cubs would have paid him more to be the bench coach than he'll make as the head guy in Milwaukee.

The Brewers will now just keep most of their assistants from last year as they were all under contract for this coming year. This has the added benefit of further sticking it to Counsell, making him assemble mostly an entirely new staff.

Supporting the previous posts.

1. It is probably very cheap.

2. Attanasio probably pays a college student minimum wage to do their website.

3. Rickie Weeks is probably a manager in waiting.

4. It probably is an internship for a 65 year old. The Intern [2015) - IMDb

You just have to laugh that clowns like this are getting air time.

.....

Ozzie GuillÃĐn appeared on 670 The Score's "Mully and Haugh Show" Monday to dish about last week's bombshell that the Cubs had fired David Ross in favor of the former Milwaukee Brewers manager.

Mike Mulligan asked GuillÃĐn, who is an analyst for NBC Sports Chicago, point-blank if Counsell is an upgrade over Ross.

"Nope," Guillen said. "If you don't have a ring on your finger, you're nobody. You can be Manager of the Year [this year], and next year, you can be fired.

"At the end of the day, if you don't have a ring on your hand, I don't care how good a manager you are."

Weeks probably had to agree to 7.25/hr and a per diem of McDonalds to be Manager-in-waiting. It feels like a sale of the team is likely in the next 2 years, IMO. The only real liability remaining will be Yelich’s contract, and the taxpayers will have to fix the stadium, of course.

The Brewers clearly want to keep it in house and a popular former player like Weeks becoming manager is something they covet. I look at the Badger FB program and think fans would be a lot more tolerant if Leonard was the coach instead of an outsider like Fickell.

If the Brewers trade Burnes (very likely), Adames (somewhat likely), and don't resign Woodruff (likely), their total payroll commitments for next year would be around 66 million dollars. Yelich would take up 40% of their payroll.
