I can imagine how demoralizing it will be to get Smart back and it not make any difference...

I realize he's a scrappy, emotional leader type that plays strong pesky defense. He's a 6'4" 220 pound guard who is a 38% shooter (31% from 3) and averages about 9 points and 4 assists in 28 minutes a game. He also is ridiculously overpaid because of being an emotional leader (4 years and 52 million).

You know who that sounds a lot like? Matthew Dellavadova. The two years Delly got those types of minutes (in his case 26 a game) he averaged 8 points and 5 assists per game. He's 6'3" 200 pounds and is one of the most annoying defenders around. He got 4 years and 38 million. In his career, Delly is a 39% shooter (but 38% from 3).

If the Bucks get beat because a guy maybe a little better than Dellavadova comes back, they have bigger problems than that. The Celtics might win tonight, but it won't because of Smart pulling a Willis Reed (that might be how it gets spun if he plays and the crowd gets into it). It will be because Kyrie or Jayson Tatum play well.

Smart is the perfect role player.  Heโ€™s very good at one thing (defense) and he brings toughness and grit to the table.  Every good team needs a guy like that.

The problem for Boston is they cant shoot the ball consistently.  Smart canโ€™t help them there.

But you don't sign guys like that for 4 years and 52 million. Every team needs a team like that, but the Bucks pay Sterling Brown 1.3 million a year to do this.

They still have Sterling Brown on his rookie contract, and they have a cheap team option they will certainly exercise next season.  If he continues playing like this heโ€™ll be in line for a deal similar to Smart.

By the way, would you rather have Marcus Smart or Tony Snell?  They are making about the same money.  Thankfully they shed the Delly and Henson contracts.

Boston is fortunate because Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum are making about 8MM per year the next two seasons.  That Hayward contract is awful as heโ€™s signed for the next two seasons at 30MM+.  Their only saving grace is Kyrie will likely bail but Terry Rozier is due a healthy increase. Horford will almost certainly pick up his player option for next year as it is about 30MM.

Long term I have no idea what the Celtics are going to do.   I know they could target AD but New Orleans will certainly want Jaylen Brown and perhaps Jason Tatum in return and thatโ€™s their future.

This is why Milwaukee needs to hope Giannis can stay put because Bostonโ€™s window may be closing and if Kahwi bails most certainly Torontoโ€™s window is closed. The real unknown is what the Nets and Knicks may do.  If they can land both KD and Kyrie you have to really consider them a threat to Milwaukee in the East.

That being said, the Bucks are as well positioned as any in the league to win it all starting this year.  With some good fortune (and if they can extend Giannis) they could be the next GS Warriors.

Honestly I want the Sixers. Someone needs to punch Embiid and that team in the mouth.  They win game 6 and are acting like they won the world championship.  Wow.  You held serve at home congrats.  Now you need to win a game 7 on the road.   Good luck with that.

I still think that nobody believes in the Bucks yet. I know I was guilty of getting down on them after Game 1 of the Celtics series. They should be favored against either team, but they won't be just because of the lack of stars with playoff experience. At this point though, the only guy on either team (Sixers/Raptors) that has starred in the Finals is Kawhi.

If I had to choose, I'd want the Sixers too. The longer the post-season goes the more trouble Embiid is going to have getting physically ready to play. And they way Giannis took it to him in the last matchup, I think he's in Embiid's head a little bit (and Simmons' as well).

Kawhi still scares me more.
