quote:
The Packers selected Nick Perry in the first round of the draft last month and are playing him at left outside linebacker, which was Matthews’ position the last two years.

Matthews thus is moving to right outside linebacker, his position as a rookie in 2009. Matthews made the change Tuesday at the Packers’ first organized team activities practice.

McCarthy and staff are always talking about putting players in position to succeed. That may sound a bit cliche', but I think a move like this really reflects that attitude.

Perry is such a bust he can't even solve our problems on the right side.

Couple Perry's size with only one potentially good LT in the division (and he's a rookie) exploiting that side seems like a good idea too. Opposing teams can't just go in to the huddle and call "Run at Walden" as a play repeatedly.
I remember when they hired Capers and were converting our DE's to OLB's, Jeremy Thompson talked about how he was really only comfortable at LOLB because he's right handed and they wanted his dominant hand to be the inside hand. Something like that I think? I wonder if the same is true for Perry right now? He's right handed so they are starting him off where he will be comfortable with his hand placement. When he gets more comfortable I expect they will move him around a lot more.

Just for sh*ts and giggles, I'd like to see him try to play CB. Smiler

So why are we not playing Neal in the secondary where according to Kworst he spends most of his time?
Embracing the leadership mantle

quote:

“We work in unison together, so obviously he needs to look to me to give him advice,” Matthews said. “We’re going to be working together on the field a lot, so I need to be a mentor towards him...I think that’s the natural progression of not only having the same position on the field, but me, as far as my maturation, going into my fourth year, and believing that I can be a leader.”
During the 1st hour of practice today, way off in the far corner of the field by the stands accross from Resch Center, Greene was doing a drill with only CM3 and Perry. Greene would yell go, and both guy's would blast off upfield, turn the corner around some cones, and meet at a cone 7 yards in the backfield. Some serious speed on both sides.

And I'll I could picture was Jay Cutler as that single cone in the pocket.
