Maximilian Schell and Richard Widmark in Judgment at Nuremberg
Maximilian Schell, who won an Academy Award for his portrayal of the counsel for the defense in the 1961 movie Judgment at Nuremberg, has died at the age of 83. Schell's long career started in German-language cinema, but included a whole lot of interesting American films, including another Oscar nomination for Julia, another Nazi-themed movie in The Odessa File, and comedy in Topkapi. Schell was also in the cast of the 1968 NBC-TV movie Heidi, which is really more famous for airing at its regularly schedule time one Sunday evening despite the fact that there was an unfinished AFL game that NBC broke away from.
