One of things that IMO seperates MM from other coaches in the NFL:

quote:
I don’t like the attitude that we drafted six new rookies and all of sudden everything is fixed. That is not the case. That’s false expectations putting on these rookies. We need to improve from within. That has been our strength every single year. That will be no different this year.
This is interesting:

My number one focus for Aaron – and it’s something Tom Clements and I and also Ben McAdoo who is now coach of the quarterbacks, we have talked about it since Day 1 – is really don’t make him do too much. I think it’s an easy trap to fall into when you are planning your offensive vision for the season, because he played at such a high level. Now, we have some things we are going to do that are new that he’s excited about

I wonder what non-genius wrinkles MM has planned for 2012 ?

quote:
(safety ?) I feel good about it. Really the thing with the safeties and the corners, with Charles Woodson having the ability to play safety or even corner, it’s really a combination of how many guys are going to come out of that group. Is it five and five? Six and four, with the corners and safeties? With Charles playing so many different positions … I really like the group.

Sound like Charles' position will be even more amorphous in 2012

My guess is even more no-huddle. With Saturday and his experience with essentially ALL no-huddle in IND, I'd think they could take advantage of that.
Good thoughts H5

I was thinking about what might excite Rodgers, and finding a way to force defenses out of cover 2 with two deep safeties all the time might be one thing they are looking at. That would make the passing game a little easier for Rodgers

More Power O running is one way to accomplish that goal and it fits with MM's comment earlier in the interview about not asking Aaron to do so much and carry the team all the time. Now that Cliffy and Colledge are gone, maybe we see more improvement in the run blocking and a slight shift away from the ZBS

Should be interesting
JSO story today dealt with the impact of Giants loss and some good MM quotes. He seems to see tackling and holding onto the ball as serious problems. In the comments field below it I found this tidbit:

quote:
If MM thinks tackling is a priority, I defer to his assessment on that.

The only real problem the Packers under MM have had that is crucial to championships is having the right "big game intensity". I don't think other than Rodgers the guys are aware that the playoffs (and big games against former HoF'ers) require a different gear. Of course you don't want to spook your players, but the requirement is to get the regular game to game potency UP for the bigger games.

There's plenty of positive things to say, probably the majority, about MM's performance so far. He's only a third of the way along the path Belichick has been on, but the proportion to the numbers is pretty much exactly the same as far as winning in the regular and post season. But it stands that the Packers' standard of performance in the regular season, even against playoff caliber teams, requires the proper elevation for single elimination playoffs. The defense got it done in the 2010 playoffs for its entirety, and Rodgers was razor sharp in the Super Bowl, but otherwise there has been some really sloppy play by the offense in '07 playoffs, '09 playoffs (including the games against He Who Must Always Be Named in the regular season), parts of '10 playoffs by the offense, and '11 playoffs. Dropped balls rates and turnovers that just didn't exist in the regular season.

No team is going to 100% perfect come the playoffs, but there's a noticeable problem when your team washes out against inferior teams. Bringing the intensity and losing to a superior team is one thing, bringing the C-game and losing to inferior teams is another. It's easy for arm chair captains such as myself, but after all it's the HC job to bring consistency to the potency the GM provides. Having your team be excellent at turnover margin in the regular season and be terrible at it 2 out of 3 times, when single elimination time comes around, is about consistency (assuming you didn't have a rash of injuries killing your potency).

Listened to it Wed. Awesome interview.

It's an interesting observation. The Packers certainly played with purpose in 2010 after that disappointing finish against ARZ. I'll bet they felt that they should have won that game, as we all did.

Perhaps this season we'll see some of that 2010 swagger and focus back after similarly disappointing finish.

Continuing to ignore Finley even though there is never a defender within 9 miles of him. Is there any wonder the only scored 35 points per game last year? That is less than 6 TDs per game, fer crying out loud.
