I like this one from Demovsky:
MM: "Dom has probably answered this, but probably his most frustrating year as a defensive coordinator. He's expressed that."
cuz that's how I felt too.
This is the 2nd time that MM has mentioned more competition on defense, especially on the DL

He also commented that they are looking to get back to more of the basics of the 3-4 D

GB played a lot of nickle and 2-4-5 last year, likely because they preferred having an extra DB over an average DE on the field. Maybe that changes this year and we see more of a 3 DL alignment and you utilize a guy like Tollefson on passing downs.

More big man push and more OLB attack...anything so long as we can see wave after wave of demented avengers rushing cheerfully out of obscurity into a dream....

2012 starter by season's end.
speaking of more competition on the DL:

I was told by my sources that the Packers are talking to DL Derek Landri, former Eagle and Panther DT. 28 years old, 6' 2" 300lb DT

Really? Dom had his most frustrating year after directing the worst defense in NFL history?????? Had they not won it all the year before, he would would be fortunate to have a job in the NFL again......

So, Clifton may not be done yet.

The Giant game didn't give me a whole lot of confidence that he's got much left and I remain skeptical he'll be on the roster, regardless of what MM implied.

MM made an interesting comment yesterday. He said the defense was in a sub nickel / dime package almost 70% of the time last year and rarely in a base 3-4.

If you go through defensive stats from 2006 - 2010 teams averaged 33 pass attempts per game against GB. The numbers didn't change much from year to year. In 2011 the number jumped to 40 attempts per game (highest in the NFL).

You could make an argument that last year was a combination of an explosive offense that forced the D into sub packages with personel that may not have been suited for it to account for other teams putting the ball in the air becasue they had to. Throw in some key guy's taking a step back in performance and top it off with some really bad tackling and you get the results. Teams discovered if they got GB in a sub package given the lack of a pass rush they could simply pick them to pieces.

MM did say the focus is to find the right guys and stay in a base 3-4 far more than 30% of the time in 2012.
MM and the coaches do a great job of self -scouting and end of the year analysis

GB had a problem with penalties, they fixed it
GB had a problem with scoring points, they fixed it
GB had problems with tackling and pass defense- I'm confident they'll fix that too

I think the loss of Nick Collins had much to do with that 40 pass attempts number.

In Waukesha. The best.

Remember when root beer stands and ice cream shops only were open in the summer months?

Back in La Crosse Rudy's was only open in the summer time.

The Polar Bear Ice Cream shop was too. They had the best chocolate cones.

Up on the north side there were several tiny popcorn stands on neighborhood street corners.

We would pile in the car and drive up to the northside and get a big bag of fresh hot popcorn for 25 cents. Then off to get a root beer and then get a huge ice cream cone. Gas was less than 20 cents a gallon too.

"Those were the daze my friend, we'd thought they never end..."
