RT @JasonLaCanfora: Brandon Merriweather, a repeat offender, was fined $42,000 for his illegal hit to the head in Sunday's game at Green Bay

He would be upset about the fine if he were conscious.
Is the ref standing over him timing how long he is down for?
Seems like he got a discount for knocking himself out.

Which one? Lacy? Starks? Himself?
And if "illegal", why no flag!!
Wait.
Roosters like rainbows?
Part of me can't help but think the NFL didn't want to draw extra attention to the refs not penalizing Merriweather either time for leading with the helmet. If that kind of play isn't worth a suspension I don't know what is.
Also can't help to think that the NFL won't worry quite so much about player safety now that the concussion lawsuits are settled. It's back to showing they care just enough to make things look acceptable.
I'm sure the NFL would have found a way to argue that the Packers were the ones to benefit from the missed call.
ON WSSP today Gary Ellerson asked what people felt after Meriweather hit the turf. While I don't wish for any player to get injured once I realized it was the same guy who knocked out Lacy I happily said "instant karma". NFL needs suspensions as fines are not changing behavior. Maybe fear of letting teammates down with missed games will stop the headhunting...
It should be the fear of being paralyzed that keeps them from leading with the crown of the head and launching themselves at other players. This time it was only a knockout for Meriweather, but next time...? And he's lucky Lacy wasn't badly hurt or Starks. Imagine living with that...
two good postings above.
I originally didn't think much of Merriweather's hit on Starks because Starks got the better of him. but a friend pointed out that Merriweather isn't even attempting to tackle Starks on that play, he's just launching himself helmet first. Starks was on the sidelines and all Merriweather had to do was run him out, but, no, he launches helmet first at him.
Definite inconsistency here... does not surprise me coming out of badell's NFLFU.
Agreed with the scrambled noodle discount theory. He's looking at a much bigger fine and probably a suspension if he hurts Starks and Lacy instead of Lacy and himself.
That guy is a POS. Always has been. F him.
Shanahan was arguing that Starks was the one using his helmet as a weapon, not Meriweather. The D.C. media was definitely spinning it that way.
The Rat is also a POS, IMHO.
I subscribe to your opinion on the Rat.
Starks did lower his head, which is a natural reaction for a RB, get as small as possible to take on the hit... but he didn't lead with his head lowered. Shanahan needs Jerry Jone's son-in-law.
