He won't opt out. He's not getting 40 mil anywhere else.

All indications are he's going to be a part of this team going forward. The most likely outcome I've seen is for him to work a new contract out with the Bucks for something like an additional 3 years and 60 million. He will technically opt out and then resign for 4 years and 100 million. That gives him 60 million more guaranteed but gets his cap hit down to 25 million. It would allow them to resign Lopez and still avoid some of the tax penalties. Middleton's 4 year, 100 million contract would probably include player options after Years 2 and 3.

Maybe the contract ends up being 4 years and 120 million, but this is the general framework I've seen people discuss and propose.

Well, looks like he thinks he can get more than 40 million.  Unless, like MP suggested, the opt out is just a formality to a contract re-structure.

Middleton opting out

I think he could get close to 40 million a year on the open market. He's exactly the type of player (when healthy) everyone wants in the playoffs. He's also one of those guys that gets better when the playoffs start.

I still think he comes back to the Bucks (as will Lopez). The question is whether they trade Holiday to shake the lineup up, or just run it back and make some changes around the edges. (For god's sakes, trade Grayson Allen for ANYTHING - even a second round pick at this point. He's unplayable deep in the playoffs.)
