On my way home from work today I listened to his show on 660 AM NY. Someone asked him what Super Bowl would get the best ratings. The first team he mentioned was of course the Patriots. Then he thought for a moment and then said the Bears. Roll Eyes He didn't think any other NFC team was close in fan following. I'm sorry I know I'm biased but, I went to a Bears-Bills game a few years ago when the Bills were still decent. There were a lot of Bears fans there. But no more than when I went to see the Cowpukes or the Giants. Went to see the Pack there I think on 05 or 06. There were more Packer fans there than Bills fans. If it weren't for the white jerseys and a blue stadium you would swear it was at Lambeau

Bingo. The Bears have the population and also a rich tradition that allowed them to gain fans in other places similar to how the Packers did.

The Packers very well might have more fans nationally and internationally, but I would certainly think the Bears would be pretty close to them just because the Chicago area population alone is so large.

Yeah, but Dr. Laura doesn't talk near enough about sports as she should.
Well Chicago is the #2 media market in the league and Indy is probably one of the smallest and it partially overlaps the Chicago market. So the fact that the Chi/indy SB game even got 5th on the TV rating list is more of a statement about how large the Bears fan base is more than anything else.

The Bears, Cowboys and possibly the Steelers have just as big (or more) national following as the Packers. It may just not seem like it because their fanbases don't spend as much bandwidth online stroking each other about it. Roll Eyes Wink

The biggest TV audience this year would be Bears/Jets followed closely by Bears/Pats or Bears/Steelers. Not an opinion, just the raw numbers state it.

The Bears/Indy SB is only the 5th highest rated SB in Nielson history...
Only?

Especially when you factor in 1)the number of SB's with teams from NY and 2)the rather small contribution of Indianapolis?
Only half of them: the half who root for the Jets and Mets. The half who are Giants/Yankees fans think his gratuitous nastiness towards the Jets and Mets is wonderful.

I can't wait to hear his talk with Phil Simms on The NFL Now this morning, though. Back when Manning had those multiple-interception games midseason and Francesa was sucking up to Manning, Phil Simms pointed out that Manning's postseason record was only 9-9. Francesa tried to pin all those losses on the defense.
